Team 6 - Stackin' Racks

Finally made it out Saturday. The morning hunt was a bust. I jumped a bedded buck walking back to the truck, but didn't see a thing from the stand. Still a lot of foilage hanging on, so if anything was more than about 50 yards I would have never seen it. Went into town to eat, got back to the farm and hung a new set, and headed out to my clover food plot stand. Around 5:00 I had 23 turkeys in the plot. One made a mistake and got a little too close to me, so I did manage to get my first ever turkey kill. Ended up being a jake, but i'm pretty pleased. Made a 25 yard shot and smoked him, so that's a good confidence builder for me. I did see a doe and two fawns and had a forkey eating in the plot right at dark, so I at least got to see my first deer of the year. I'm going to try and get out again Saturday with my daughter , but right now they have rain in the forecast, so we'll see.

I got out last night and had a pretty good night, depending on your point of view. This is just a synopsis.

I grazed a 145 8 pointer. I am just sick with myself, but from everything I seen from how the deer acted, he will be fine and seemed to not know what was going on.

I am pretty sure I dropped my bow arm instead of bending at the waste. It was a pretty good angle.

Back from Missouri and catching up. The plan was to return last Friday but since a front moved through we hunted through Saturday afternoon. No kills yet but I did have a real close encounter with a mature 9 point I elected to pass at ~12 yards. With the size of the better bucks we got on the trail cams we ran while we were there, no way I was going to use my early season buck tag on him now & find myself sitting on my hands until 11/10 shooting does before I could use another buck tag. Just starting to get good there. The farmer is supposed to cut the corn around 10/15 so we're heading back when we know he is for sure. That will eliminate over 400 acres of cover they're using.

Here's the 4 best bucks we've gotten on cams there so far & I think we're still scratching the surface. 3 of these we just found when we ran the cams.

Thiw 1st buck 11 point is the only one we'd previously caught on cams. Only passed by the cam once since we last ran that cam though.

This buck passed right by one of my stands last Tuesday morning ~35 minutes before I'd have enough shooting light. I wasn't hunting it that day though.

The next 2 bucks were hitting a mineral lick by one of my other cams. Unfortunately, the memory card filled up too soon. The 1st pic below of the big 9 was one of the last few pics on the card. The last pic was him looking right at the cam so I know he's wide too.

That's the cream of the crop so far but we did catch some other really nice bucks too. After I catch up from being gone for 12 or so days I'll be able to spend more time in the forum.

Awesome bucks Al!

I sat this morning but didn't see anything. The wind was pretty stiff at times and I under dressed! I still enjoyed my time in the stand.

Got down and checked the trail cam before heading out and it has decided to quit taking pics. It works but will not take a pic. Looks like I'll be shopping for a new cam now  .

I can't believe the amount of deer movement that we are seeing. I've gone back and looked at the reports I've kept. Mid October has always been slow it seems. This year it seems the bucks are moving, a lot, and in daylight.

Oh Yea, my brother in law missed the same deer, from the same tree, at the same distance that I did on Sunday. Only difference was he was out on Monday.

The deer is a giant 8 pointer. I find myself daydreaming about him.

Good luck to all who are getting out.

Hunted the last couple days and saw a bunch of deer. A lot of small bucks and a few does, but nothing on the ground yet. Had a good 8pt come through this morning, but he stayed 80 yds out or so. I will be back at it this weekend, but looks like it might rain and is going to warm up. Good Luck Everyone!

The deer have been hitting the acorns hard around here. Kinda hurts me concidering they logged all of the mature acorn producing trees a couple years ago. I'm gonna take the kids out tomarrow for the youth firearms season,I'm hopeing my son can get a deer. It will be about a week before I can get back out after tomarrow, muzzleloading is next weekend and I'm gonna take my dad and see if he can get on one.

Brought my daughter out for a morning hunt Saturday. Didn't see a thing, but had a good time regardless. It was warm and windy here all weekend. Going to try it again this weekend. It may be my last chance to get out for a couple of weeks. It looks like I may be going to South Dakota pheasant hunting from the 25th to the 29th.

Hunted MS for the 1st time this past weekend. Broke in the new Invasion on a mature doe Saturday afternoon. 21 yard shot & heart shot her. Heard her crash but didn't see it...don't know how I missed seeing her go down where she was. Caught a glimpse of some white through the limbs a minute or so later from the stand & glassed her laying there butt facing toward me ~40 yards from where I shot her. I'll get the team pics posted today for the 5 points. Headed to MO Thursday for 4 days of bowhunting up there.

Congrats Rhino. Way to break in a new bow.

I went out Friday and Sunday. Short story, Friday didn't see diddly squat and Sunday, everything moved right at dark. Seen 2 bucks pushing each other around, nothing serious but couldn't see how big. Seems more of a typical October...movement right at dark. Couple weeks to go.

Thanks teammates...got the entry pics posted in that thread.

Leaving Wed. for MO now but have to come home on Tues. the 23rd so I'll get 5 days to hunt instead of 4. Have some more chores to do there so may miss a few mornings but won't miss the afternoon hunts. BTW...no internet service there & cell phone service sucks at best. If I happen to wack something special in MO, I'll try to text it to John to let y'all know. After this trip we're heading back to MO again around the beginning of Nov. to hunt hard for 10 or 12 days. Should work a couple of days of bowhunting in MS between those trips to MO. Gotta love it!!!

Congrats on the doe Al. I will admit, I got all excited to see bone when I saw your name posted in the pic thread. Im ready for you to stick one of those big boys! I expect the pic to have your crazy hair in it as well. Goodluck buddy!

Thanks Ben...hope to have my pic with crazy grey hair above a deer with head full of bone too. Have to wack some does in MO too for management purposes. Passed 4 last trip inside the 15 yard line cuz the skinning shed at the camp (lodge) my buddy's building wasn't finished yet. Hope it is by Wednesday. No big bucks are going to get passed for that reason though.

We have a weak front pushing through Thursday/Friday. Looks like temps will dip down in the low 50's/hi 40's for Saturday morning. We have an all night "Fall Fest" Friday night for the youth group at church and I've been asked to help chaperone. Hopefully I can squeeze in a couple hours of sleep before heading out to the lease. :D

Went out last night, didn't get up in my tree until 4:45. I had deer on me almost right away. Does and fawns were running around the woods. Pretty sure there was 2 seperate groups, can't be sure though. Heading out tonite and tomorrow. Mr. Big is still out there somewhere, hope he makes it to me again, this time will be different.

Well I came close to getting a deer Saturday morning but they were about a hour too early. They were in my food plot as I was walking in at 5:45. They were literally ten yards from my stand. Looked to be a doe and her fawn from this year. I could just barely make then out with my green steamlight. They bolted out and didn't come back in while l was there. At about 10 I had a buck slip in behind me, down wind, he grunted several times but I never saw him, it was just too thick. I'm pretty sure he winded me and slipped out.

Close calls!

Well, another weekend without a deer in the back of the truck. I hunted all day Saturday with just a short break for lunch. The morning was nice, but not much movement. I did pass on an 8 pointer that came down from the bedding area. He came down to within 4 yards just eating on some acorns, got a drink out of the creek, and headed right back up to the bedding area he came from. I passed a little 3 pointer at about 10 yards in the afternoon from a different stand. Had a doe at about 50 yards, but she wouldn't get any closer. The 3 pointer was all over her. He would chase her for a few seconds then stop and wheeze at her. pretty cool to watch, but she didn't want any part of him. Walking out at dark i got busted and blown at twice. Movement is still very early and very late here. I can't complain much about the season so far. I've passed on three young bucks all under 10 yards, and seen deer on all but two sits. Hopefully it's just a matter of time before i stick one.

Congrats on the doe rhino. I took the boy out last weekend but our hunt was a bust from the getgo. I hunted this weekend during the early blackpowder and only seen two deer. I took my dad with me and put him in one of my spots down the logging road from me,he missed a doe that then came my way. I took about a 80yard shot at her up a steal hillside and also missed her,we thought it was kinda funny that we both missed the same deer not 10 min apart. I'm gonna try and get back out one or two days this week before I go back to work.

My BIL rattled in a nice 10 last night. He hung up about 40 yards in ditch. When he didn't see the deer making the noise, he turned and walked away. I also heard some chasing going on, but right at last light. It was pretty warm out last night. Cold front coming through Thursday is suppose to drop temps all day.

Tha magic time is upon us. Get out in that tree or blind.
