Good luck this weekend boys! I'm outta here for a few days. Heading to South Dakota to do some pheasant hunting with my grandpa (85 yo.) and a few buddies. Looks like I'll miss some good hunting weather, but it's grandpa's last year making the South Dakota trip and I can't miss that.

I plan on hitting it pretty hard when I get back...it should be getting good around here by then.

Got back from MO late yesterday. Saw a couple of mature bucks one afternoon including the same 9 point I passed last time I was there. The other mature buck was a stud! Looks to be an 11 point including a NT point on his right beam that appears to be coming off the base of his G3. Good mass too! Unfortunately he was 275 yards from me in a cut corn field & went the other way down the field. Watched him for ~30 minutes before it got too dark to make him out some 400 to 500 yards away. He was big enough to shake me up in the stand watching him though. Got trail cam pics now of both of those 2 bucks and a new big 10 that showed up by one of my other stands. I'll post pics of them when I get home. Before I left I set a 2nd stand close to where they wanted to be in that field (5 rack bucks total) and set a blind on the opposite side close to where both mature bucks passed so I have almost any wind situation covered to hunt those boys now. My buddy saw 4 shooter bucks (2 were 10's & 2 were 8's) and unfortunately, missed a big 8 point last Thursday afternoon. Right now I'm in LA taking care of some of my mother's business. Should be heading home Friday. I may hunt Saturday afternoon in MS but with the rut coming on soon in MO we're planning to head back there the 1st of next week and hunt hard 10 to 12 days. Gotta love it! I have some regrouping and catching up to do before we head back to MO so not sure if I'll have time to sit in a tree this weekend.

Al, if I said I wasn't just a little bit jealous of your ability to hunt the way you do, I'd be lying! Hope you get to tag one of those bruisers!

I hear ya Corey & thanks. For someone like me that loves to be in the outdoors, especially in the fall & spring...my situation sure doesn't suck. Wasn't always that way...worked hard for a lot of years, saved $ & got lucky with a few investments in particular to get here.

Took my son out on Saturday morning and evening. All we saw during the morning sit were two hen turkeys. That evening we had three doe come out. One popped out of the woods about 20 yards from the stand and didn't like what she saw so she bounced back in the woods. About 15 minutes pass by and a doe appears down the lane to our right at about 125 yards. By the time he got set up she slipped off in the woods but the third one walked out behind her. He got her in the scope but she never did present a decent shot so it was a no go.

I'm not sure who was more nervous, me or him LOL!

Got out Friday morning, It was cold and frosty. I had Mr. Big walk into about 40 yards. He either winded me or the 30 or turkeys coming out of the trees at him spooked him. He turned and trotted back the way he came. Saturday night was nothing but does. This week fella's, I've already got my early out requests in at work. I am out there everyday but Wednesday, I need to check my girl's candy before the eat it.

Finally back from South Dakota. Had a good time, but hunted pretty darn hard. I think we ended up with 46 roosters between 7 of us. I plan on getting out in the woods this weekend, but the weather doesn't look too good. They have highs in the mid 60's for saturday, and rain for Sunday. My cousin got a nice 9 pointer that was on a doe Sunday morning, so hopefully I get into a little action.

I went out last night and saw my first chase of the year. Not really a chase more of a buck following closely to where the doe was going. I then had 3 little bucks come in together. It was 2 year and half and a buck fawn. They tolerated each other, but were still together. Heading out tonight again. The big boys got to start moving sometime.

Got out last night and just about got blown out of the tree. It was so windy and noisy that the buck that was bedded about 60 yards from my stand had no idea I climbed up. After a bit he casually got up and walked up the hill behind me. About 6pm I watch him walk down the next ridge over and out into the cornfield. I decided to get down a little early, since I couldn't hear a thing and I was a touch cold.

Tomorrow start 4 straight days of tree time. Good Luck to all.

Been hunting a few times in the last week or so. Seen plenty of deer, but nothing big yet. Checked out cameras yesterday and have several nice bucks up and moving in daylight hours so the action should be picking up soon. Starting Sunday I'm off for 9 days and plan to be in the stand every day. So hopefully something exciting happens. Good luck everyone!

I have been working a lot of overtime the last couple weeks. I start vacation the day before modern gun season here in ky, I'll have two weeks off to hunt. I went to the farm this morning and was going to hunt but when I got there I found they are logging the farm again. I got so pizzed that I almost cried, this is the third year in a row they have logged. I got back in my truck and came back home before it even got daylight after I found they had been dragging logs from the hillside my stand is on.

Things are looking good this weekend. I can't get out tomorrow, but took a vacation day for Monday, so I'll be out Sunday and Monday trying to put one down. Weather looks decent and the rut should be heating up very shortly. Sunday it will one year exactly since i killed the 8 pointer in my avatar, so hopefully I can make it happen two years in a row.

Last night was a bust. It stayed pretty breezy all night. I saw exaclty 1 baby opossum and that was it. My BIL has been seeing some big ones moving, but not until right at last light. Heading back out tonight and tomorrow. Sunday I won't be getting out, church obligations and basketball practice. Good Luck team 6.

No new updates for me. Got back from MO Friday evening. Fun hunt but didn't see any shooter bucks. Had a 3.5 year old 10 point at 25 yards. Thought for a moment he was going to put a beating on my buck decoy. Didn't though...cool experience. He had his ears layed back and hair brissled up then back away. My buddy killed a nice 158" main frame 10 with 2 scorable kickers & a 19" inside spread in MO last Thursday. Blood played out afer ~250 yards so we let it lay overnight and found it the next morning about 200 yards from the last blood. It's the biggest buck he's ever killed.

I took a 10 year old out Saturday afternoon here in MS during our youth hunt. We saw 11 deer & he missed a doe at ~60 yards.

Heading back to MO either Wednesday or Thursday for a longer hunt...probably around 10 days. Their gun season opens this coming Saturday and we need to be there to keep unwelcome hunters off our place. Got a few more lines to post where we suspect we may have problems. Got the conservation officer's phone number in my iPhone. The sheriff too. Met with the conservation officer while we were up there recently. Nice guy.

Oh by the way...the big main frame 10 I saw with the NT point that angles toward the inside of his rack showed up in front of one of my cams. Bummer is shortly after I saw him he broke off his right G2 and most of his right G4. He was intact when I saw him. This is what he looks like now...bummer.

Man, long day yesterday. I took off work to do some hunting. I was in a stand all day long with the exception of 45 minutes to eat some grub and stretch out a little. Only seen two deer...a spike at noon and a 2 1/2 yo 8 pointer at 5. Pretty dissapointed since this is supposed to be the rut. On top of that the weather man really let me down, and I ended up sitting in the rain for 4 hours. I'm going to get out this weekend, but it looks like it's going to be in the 70's and windy. I can't catch a break with this dang weather.

I hear you about this weekends weather. I had plans on going out in the evenings, but I think I am going to switch to mornings. That seems to be when everybody I talk to is seeing deer movement. I have sat just about everynight for the past week or so and haven't seen a deer except right at last light, and those weren't even close. I guess being in the 40's all day still isn't cool enough to get them deer up and moving. This has been one of the most difficult Rut's I've hunted. Good Luck everybodh.

How's it going guys, I finally get some time off from work. Today starts my 2 week vacation and tomarrow is opening day of modern rifle season. My dad told me my cousin has been seeing 3 nice buck on the farm and one of them has a droptine, that's the one I want. I'm just gonna concentrate on getting some meat for the freezer for now but if a big one shows up he's in trouble. I sold my rifle yesterday so I had to go buy a new one today, I feel pretty good about tomarrow, they been rutting like crazy down here. I got my tools all laid out for tomarrow.8624A09A-8B9E-45AE-8C11-1ADBAB64D7AC-4831-000007C4DC7DBDB4.jpg

Congrats man! He's a great buck! Way to put that new rifle to work.

I had no luck this weekend. I got my daughter out with me Saturday, but record high temps (80) & 25 mph winds made movement pretty much non existent. I'm off Thursday to bowhunt, and Friday our shotgun season starts. The weather looks decent, so hopefully when I get back next week i'll have something to get entered.

Congrats on the buck. He is a dandy. I got out Saturday night but with temps in the mid 60's I didn't have much hope. Well long story short, it was my best night out. I saw a monster chasing a doe around. I had several smaller bucks hang around until last shooting light. That's when the monster came grunting down the hill and scattered the smaller bucks out. He stood out at 25 yards, but it was about 10 minutes past legal time. I could see his body, but not his headgear. It's amazing what 15 minutes can cost you.

I got back out today and took my dad to get a deer. It was a bad start,we got in late for unseen problems and after I got dad out and set up I got my Durango stuck in a mud hole. I did see three does but no shot ant any of them, dad managed to take a button buck . I finally got the truck out and we made our way home to skin it. Good luck guys, this cold spell has them on there feet.
