MUDRUNNER
Going to be a long day today...all I can think about is getting in the woods tomorrow morning. The weather looks like it's finally going to cooperate. The next 5 days are highs in the 50's and lows in the 30's with light winds. I've got a new stand to hunt Thursday, and friday it's back to my "old reliable" stand for shotgun season.

Rhino
Congrats on the buck Huntingman! WTG!! Just got home from Missouri...yep again. It was hot and cold depending on the day. No buck kills for me yet but some great hunts & memorable experiences. I'll need more time to fill y'all in. Just got home & plenty of cloths to wash. The Mississippi gun season opens tomorrow so I'm heading to camp tomorrow morning. Not sure if I'll have the energy to sit a stand but looking forward to seeing my old hunting buddies. Oh BTW...I loaned our MO neighbor a ground blind & set it up for him on his place the day before opening day of the MO gun season. He picked the spot. He's not in good enough shape to hunt anything but ground blinds. He killed his biggest buck ever out of it opening day afternoon. An 11 point that scored 168 1/8" gross. Nets are for fish! Pics & story later. Edited November 16, 2012 by Rhino
HUNTINGMAN
I'm gonna get back out tomarrow and see if I can get a big fat slickhead for the freezer. We got two more days left in this years modern gun season,I'll be more interested in getting dad another deer though. Good luck to everyone who is going out and be safe. Dawg
Well team I still have yet to see a deer while on stand (save the three we saw during youth season). I'm hoping these acorns will sour soon so the deer will start coming to the corn and plots. Right now they have too much forage out there. Probably going to take a break from the deer stand and carry my son squirrel hunting this Friday. I got him a youth model Mossberg 500 20 gauge yesterday so we're going to see how it performs on the tree rats.
MUDRUNNER
Finally put a nice one down Friday morning. He's a main frame 8 with a broke G3 and a 1 1/2" kicker off the base. I'm more than pleased with him...been a tuff, tuff season.
Rhino
Congratulations Mudrunner...Nice! I didn't hit the woods for opening weekend of gun season here in MS. Did get the last 4 gun stands I have out ready for later when our rut cranks up. Rut usually starts cranking up in my part of MS around 12/18. From the guys that did hit the woods at our camp, it was SLOW! Only deer killed were does. Only bucks seen by trusted buddies were young bucks. I'll be catching up most of this week and probably head back to Missouri Saturday. Hope y'all have a happy Thanksgiving.
redkneck
Same over in my side of the state Al, very slow. A few young racks moving but not a shot fired among our 4 members. Hope things start heating up soon.
c_lou
Well boys, I scored on a 8 pointer Sunday night. He wasn't the biggest buck, but he is mine and I am proud of the shot that I made. 40 yards and he dropped in his tracks. A good, clean, quick kill. Rhino
Congrats c_lou & ilhnter...WTG! Up to third place? I ain't heard no fat lady singin yet. Plenty of time for the rest of us to put some more down too.
MUDRUNNER
I didn't get any more points for the team over the weekend. I did manage to put an arrow through a nice fat doe Saturday morning, so the weekend wasn't a total bust. My year went from aweful to pretty darn good all in a weeks time. Next weekend is our second shotgun season, and since I'm tagged out on shotgun permits it will be at least two weeks before I get out with the bow again. c_lou
ilhunter, have you gotten pictures uploaded to the photo thread? I think yours would push us up to second. How has the hunting been going out there?
ilhnter
Uploaded my photo's to the thread today. Looks like that will move us into second. I have been out for the 2nd shotgun season in IL, but its been real slow. Seen a few. Good luck everyone!!
Dawg
Nothing to report from me guys. The main rut is over + full moon out= not good in my neck of the woods. There will be a second smaller rut kicking up within the next couple weeks but it usually doesn't last long. Doe days are over for our general gun season so if it ain't a buck it don't get shot. We'll have a muzzleloader season for two weeks after general season is over and that will give me a chance to tag buck our doe.
HUNTINGMAN
Way to go guys, congrats to everyone who has harvested. You all that haven't had the chance good luck and keep at it, I got confidence in all of you. It doesn't take but just a few minutes to turn a bad season into an unforgettable one. MUDRUNNER
Second firearm season in Illinois was this past weekend. Since I am tagged out I went up to cook and play cards. Between six guys hunting only a doe was taken over the four days. It has been way warm....supposed to be 77 here today. On a brighter note, i did get a few pictures of a couple of 140"+ bucks that made it through first gun season. Also looks like a few team members haven't been on in a while. looking back through this thread Monsterbuck48 hasn't been here since Oct. 6th, and Whittlebucksteve hasn't been here since Oct. 24th. :bang: We're right there in the hunt for first place though. Rhino
Checking in...hunted a couple of days this past weekend in MS. Saw a chase Saturday afternoon but couldn't ID the buck in the cane thicket. I hunted a few days the beginning of last week in MO but didn't see any mature bucks. Just younger bucks & does. Heading back to MO early Wed. and hope to get at least 1 hunt in. Furniture gets delivered to move into my buddy's lodge Thursday so I doubt I'll hit the woods at all that day. Have to come home Saturday then return to MO the following Wed. He and I are closing on buying some more porperty up there the end of next week. We have a client and our field manager for the company we jointly own showing up the 15th for 5 days of hunting. My buddy and I will play guide but I'll also hit the woods with my muzzleloader while they are there too. I'll return home on the 21st which will be about the time the rut starts getting hot in Mississippi. Should be in the MS woods a lot between Christmas & New Years for the peak rutting action here.
