Here's a vote for the Glocks.

New, used or otherwise................ I've got 3 of them. They are absolutely reliable. I do not have any idea how many rounds have gone through the 3 of them combined. But none has ever failed to go BANG and cycle when the trigger was pulled.

You are MORE than welcome to run up here and run them all 'til your heart's content if you want. There's a G23, a G27 and a G29.

I shoot alot as you can probably tell if you watch any of my videos and see many different brands of pistols used in competition. The ones that run well and don't break are on the list I gave you. Many new shooters start with a Taurus or Ruger but quickly change over. Even a Glock with 20,000 rounds through it will outlast any Taurus or Ruger centerfire. My Glock carry gun has much more than that through it and like Strut says, it always goes BANG.

Glock just went in numerical order as he designed the pistols so the numbers are just in order. The full size and mid size 9's were first because he was in the european police and military market then he broke into other markets and calibers.

One thing you may want to know is that there is a large cottage industry that makes money improving Glock triggers. From my experience and from listening to other shooters we've pretty much determined that the best "bang for your buck" is Glockworx (ZEV industries) Competition spring kit and a Race connector will improve the trigger the best for the money and is reliable. It's only about $25.00 to install these items and it's easy to do. There are options that cost $250.00 and from our group experience it's not worth it.

Is this a 2 1/2 or 3 1/2 lb. kit ??

I think I have been missing something for years by not putting the trigger kits on my Glocks. I actually think the factory triggers are pretty good.......once you get used to the "Glock pull"........but have heard from others they REALLY benefit from the parts upgrade.

They say it's a 3.5 pound kit but it always ends up being 4 or so if you measure the poundage from the center of the trigger and not the end (gives you more leverage). I had a bona fide 2 pound pull with one trigger but ignition with most primers was iffy when the gun got dirty because it used a very light striker spring. The Glock pull is actually like a "staple gun". LOL

Try the setup I described and see if you like it. The good thing is that it is still a safe setup for concealed carry.

Here I am with the kit in my Glock 22 carry gun. It looks like I miss on the first stage but I'm shooting at targets further downrange.

I have not had a pistol since I sold my Beretta 9mm a few years back. Looking to get a new one. I have looked at the Ruger SRC40 and it seems like a nice gun. Especially for the price. AND...made in AMERICA :) Anyone have one who can comment on it? Pros? Cons?. Any other recommendations?

Ruger makes great guns, American made, and one of my favorite manufacturers.

Their very best firearms are the Mini-14 and the Mini-30. Nobody makes a better "battle rifle" than these.

Their other firearms tend to be almost as good but not quite as precisely accurate as the big names, but at a better price, so the trade off is usually high price versus extreme precision.

They are in the top 3 of 45ACPs in my opinion with their P90.

Ruger P series - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The other two in this class are by Sig Sauer and CZ.

If you liked your Baretta, you will love one of these 3.

Two brands that I definitely stay away from for self defense semi-auto pistols are Taurus and Ruger. (Ruger does make great revolvers and 22 autos) I'd go with a used Glock, S&W M&P or Springfiled XD for about the same price myself.

The one brand I would definitely stay away from is glock.

But that's just me. I came of age in a different era. I am used to different features which the glocks and glock copycats do not have.

So basically, all you are saying is that you love/recommend the glock copycats.

I cannot fathom how someone accustomed to a Beretta could comfortable make the switch to something else so radically different. Good or bad. Better or worse.

You get used to whatever you get used to.

I would prefer an external hammer. And also a double and single action option.

The Glock, Springfield XD, S&W M&P from what I've experienced and seen are the top guns for reliability and durability for people on a budget. We shoot them in Production Division and shoot them more in a month than most people will in ten years. I carry a Glock as do many of my friends that compete. When you go to shoots you will notice there are no Taurus or Ruger factory shooters (I wear a Crown Bullet factory shirt). There's a good reason. Quality and durability problems.

You really need to get out of California sometime and come shoot here at Rio Salado in Mesa,Az. It's considered by many to be the best place to learn to shoot in the world. PM me if you are coming this way. We'll have a pistol for you too if you want. You may get to shoot with guys like JJ Racazza or Robbie Leatham depending on when you come. Here's JJ freezing to death. LOL

Everyone seems to learn to shoot in different venues. Mine was the military.

Thus I became accustomed to the Springfield 45ACP early on, in my day.

Subsequent to my day the Baretta 9mm had its day.

The Glock era began after those and is with us still. I recall F. Lee Ermy giving Glock credit for designing a really fast shooting handgun, faster than any other.

I would not be comfortable with the features missing from the Glocks which I have grown used to in the Springfields or Brownings and their copycats.

I can speak for the 2 XDs and 1 Ruger I have. The Ruger is a P95 in 9mm and the 2 XDs are a Full Size Tactical in 45acp and a SubCompact in 9mm. Very accurate and function nicely with all types of ammo I have put through them so far. I will tell you that I have no where near the rounds through them that Mark does though.

I can tell you also that one of my Glock buddies really liked the fit and feel of my XDs and plans on buying one.

So you like the Springfield 1911 45 ACP? Here it is.

The problem here you cannot see because of camera angle is that the two end poppers only show an inch beyond the 4 in front.

My personal feeling on the Glocks is that, for a fight stopping sidearm, they have no rival in function and durability. That and NOBODY else make a compact 10mm, which is, IMHO, the Holy Grail in fight stopping.

My absolute favorite gun to shoot is a Browning Hi-Power............ ala the 1911 with all the things John Moses figured needed fixing. I LOVE my Hi-Power !!!!!!

Not exactly sure what point you are trying to make with the movie.

I do not doubt that someone sufficiently trained with a glock could shoot faster and more accurately than with anything else. F Lee Ermy already has demonstrated that with his filmmaking. I just do not like the functioning and feel of the glocks. I came of age in a totally different era.

I completely agree with you on both issues, particularly on John Browning. This is precisely why I settled on the CZ 45ACP since it is a copycat of the Browning HiPower only in 45ACP.

The CZ is almost as accurate and half as expensive as its carbon copy by Sig.

The Ruger copy is not quite as accurate as the other two. But American made.

Choice becomes, can you live without American made this time?

If so, do you want to pay more or less?

One more consideration is that the CZ field strips easier than the Sig.

At least that's how it goes as far as the double action external hammer 45ACPs go.

If you want a different caliber then it is a totally different ball game.

Ford...........Chevy........Dodge............... :fish:

Sidearm choice is VERY MUCH an individual preference deal. I can't stand 1911's. That's just me. Could never see the point in lugging a CCW that weighed as much empty as my Glocks weigh loaded.

Also............Preferring Glocks as I do......... the Springfield XD's feel like deckposts in my hand. Like the M&P. Despise most Taurus autos. Love some of the Taurus wheelguns.

Try what you think. Buy what you like.
