Stinger-Hunter
I don't know if I can post a link on here or not - if not, I apologize in advance. I wrote a little blog about this, but the jist of it is this. I teach boxing and had 3 of my guys enter their first bout last night on Friday. I met with the promoter to ensure he was a fair man and wouldn't set my guys up for failure. We discussed how boxing was corrupt, how my guys truly did not have any fights, I talked about how I wanted to begin a network of honest promoters where people could compete legitimately, etc. His words echoed mine and I told him all about my fighters, details, how long they trained, strengths and weaknesses. He assured me if a fight was unevenly matched he would stop the fight, hinting that it would be a waste of my time to have guys compete with a "less than honest" fight record. I assured him that I would always tell him the truth and I was looking for fair competition for my fighters. Fight night came and both of my fighters that he matched up were pair with super-experienced guys. But the fight card stated neither fighters with the long record had any fights - in fact is said they were 0-0. They both admitted to 8 fights and 15 fights when asked. The first guy, was matched up with a veteran of the Golden Gloves with 15 (at least) fights - my guy was entering his first fight. It was a massacre and only due to my fighter's refusal to quit was he able to survive three rounds. It was a horrendous beating, the likes of which I have never seen on TV, YouTube or anywhere else. The second fighter was set up with a guy that had 8 fights - I made sure my guy didn't fight him and we left before the event ended. My blog is here: Mark Caruso - Worst Boxing Promoter in Illinois | Red Dragons Romeoville IL | Romeoville Martial Arts YELP| Romeoville Boxing Things were said that made it evident that the promoter knew the other fighter's record. During the fighters' meet up in the middle of the ring, the promoter said to the other fighter, "This is Brian's first fight so take it easy on him." I wasn't present, so I didn't hear it. It was a blatant set-up. I believe this fight promoter should be banned from USA boxing and banned from promoting fights in Illinois. Honestly, it was horrible. No commitment to fighter safety. He let the fight go on - going back on his word. Yes, I could have thrown in the towel, but I knew my fighter didn't want that. Worse than anything you've seen on YouTube - but there was no official knockout - they wore 18oz gloves, but the damage was seen and heard. I won't say the promoters name on here, but it is evident in the blog post. Anyone in Illinois that participates in boxing should be wary of this man in my opinion. He is dangerous and reckless. Hopefully I won't get in trouble for posting this because there were kids that fought that night that were mismatched too. One particular fight was a 10 year old that was crying that he didn't want to fight anymore and was yelled at - luckily they stopped it. His opponent was at least 20 lbs heavier and 8 inches taller. I almost climbed into the ring to rescue him and would have if they finally decided that he wasn't going to fight. It was egregious! Just wanted to share that with you guys. redkneck
I gave up watching the sport years ago. You can't count on any of it being legit.

Shoobee
Boxing is a skill and an art which as George Foreman explained is all about keenly drilled combinations. I enjoy scoring the bouts, which is the only way to make sense of them. The count then tells you the number of solid hits of each contestant and who has won what round. It is rare that a boxer actually goes down for the count. But when it happens it normally wins the round, at least. Boxing as a sport has rules which are impractical in a real fight. In a real fight what you should do is always against the rules of boxing -- namely eye gouging and biting and toe stomping and heat butting whenever possible. Eye gouging and biting were against the rules even in the ancient Greek olympics and have been ever since. In a real fight, eye gouging is your best bet while you still have your interval distance. Toe stomping especially with your boots is also extremely effective in a real fight while you are still standing. Head butting is like hitting someone with a 2x4 board. It needs to be practiced to do it right though. Once the fight progresses to a wrestling match then biting inflicts the most pain and starts the bleeding process on your opponent In summary, a brawl is way different than a boxing match, and the two should never be confused. It seems like it would be pretty disgusting to watch a brawl where both combatants are really out for the kill. Althought watching a boxing match is as thrilling as any athletic competition with stunning combinations resulting from intense training, if you know how to score it.
