Scbasshunter
Has anybody ever bowhunted/killed a deer while only wearing short sleeves? I am thinking that is the only way I am going to be able to stay cool until it cools off outside.
Shoobee
The best way to cool off right now before you go hunting is to wet your T-shirt before you put it on. That will keep you cool under your hunting shirt. Also wet your hair and wear a wet camo bandana, and wear your hunting boonie hat over that. You can even wet the boonie hat as well. The moisture will keep you cool. Where I hunt there are tons of poison oak, and short anything (sleeves or pants) are completely out of the question. Plus only Africans are natually born properly pigmented hunters. The rest of us whities look like marshmallows to the deer if we wear short sleeves. Then they can spot you from a mile away due to the glare. Edited September 5, 2012 by Shoobee
Rhino
Nope...never have. I have walked to my stand in a short sleeve shirt, gotten in my stand, sprayed down with water or a scent killer spray, let whatever breeze there was dry me while I cooled off, then put my short sleeve shirt in a zip loc bag & put a long sleeve T shirt on to hunt. dbHunterNY
i'll just wear my underarmour heatgear black longsleeve compression shirt. i've got my realtree huntersafety harness on over it when in the stand that's mess. if in a blind the shirt is black so i'm good. you feel every little bit of air movement. Scbasshunter
I'm assuming deer see black like they see camo or brown?
4NRARU
Ive heard rumors of deer being color blind etc they can however notice the shade of color like a black and white movie so to speak. Basicly u want natural colors and natural colors with natural patterns superceeds that. So black browns tans etc are good. White is like lime green. They will spot you. Try wearing a long sleve that breathes well like under armor or vented well.
dbHunterNY
deer aren't really color blind their sensitivity to certain wavelengths of light is just different than ours. they see purple, blues, and greens best. then yellow not nearly as much. red they really have a tough time seeing well at all period. they see black similar to how we do, but only your arms would be black while in the stand. think of how many black streaks or patches you see in woods..... a lot.
