elk hunting

No clue about mule deer, but I'm trying to get the hang of elk. From everything I've heard, and what I'm using, and what I've heard works the best is locating elk with a bugle then closing the distance and using a simple cow call to pull them in. That being said, it's alot like turkey hunting, big gobblers on public land is like big bulls, except elk use the wind. That's about all I can say, I'm pretty addicted to it, been two years, and heading back for a 3rd.

Can any body tell any good tactics for hunting elk and mule deer spot and stalk for my up comeing trip

These two species are exact opposites. I think you were given both tags in case you run into one or the other.

To find elk, best thing is to set up camp somewhere and then be really quiet. No rock and roll or music. Around midnight you will hear the elk bugling to each other. Set your compass in that direction, and then head for it in the morning, and look for their tracks. Follow their tracks to their water source, since they are big animals who drink a lot, and then you will find them. Set up your stand or blind somewhere between their beds and their water source.

To find mule deer, drive around in the late evening or early morning, and look for them on the sides of ridges high up. Then hike in during the middle of the day to set up your stand or blind.

You might find either in the morning driving around as they head from their water source to their beds higher up. Mule deer do not bugle however so they are considerable harder to find.
