AJ
Re: Rut in the Mountains of Virginia Hey Hokie, I hunted West of Blue Ridge for 5 years and the rut peak was typically the week of early ML season. That puts it the second week of November. Within the next week or so they should start chasing. I have been seeing some rubs, a few scrapes, and some sparring but nothing serious. Mountaineer
Re: Rut in the Mountains of Virginia Yeah what AJ said. It's usually the very first of muzzleloading through November. We've been finding tons of scrapes already that are cleaned out everyday, which is a good sign its almost here.

Guest VTBowhunter7091
Re: Rut in the Mountains of Virginia Yeah I saw a few does the other morning and my buddy killed his first deer with the bow... a good sized doe. I've found a spot with a good bit of rubs but haven't found any scrapes yet. Hopefully can do some more scouting some time this week. I wanna get this one when the rut gets here. va hunter
hey vtbowhunter, i have hunted the mountains of virginia all my life and i found that early muzzleloading usually the 2nd week is the best time for rut activity the 1st week of rifle is also good. but i have seen more big bucks during those weeks. Sammy
Anyone have any ideas about finding good hunting land in the national forest... everything i've found looks like the rifle guys got em all last year I live in Pulaski, 30min from VT. What's really bad about hunting the Nat. Forest around here is that it gets really crowded so it's really best to find some private land. But, I have done some scouting here in Pulaski Co. and it seems there are plenty of deer around it just takes some hiking deeper in the woods or a four-wheeler to get away from those areas that fellow hunters go to. And, if you do this you'll find more sign and more deer.
