HarvDog Posted March 10, 2005 Report Share Posted March 10, 2005 Can anyone explain the wiring for a 4 pin flat trailer connector? I'm pretty sure that the white is the ground and the green is for the brake light. What are the yellow and brown/black for? I have a lighted hitch cover with only two of the four pins (two wires-white and green) and it only works with the brake lights. I would like to rewire this by adding a full 4 pin connector to make it flash when the turn indicators are being used. I'm not positive, but I think if you wire it the way you said, you are gonna have a problem when you have a blinker, and parking/headlights on at the same time. The blinkers are wired in with the tail lights and completely independent to the brakelight. Yep, if you do not wire it correctly you run the risk of not only having your blinkers fail to operate properly, but might also damage your electrical system. The plug for your trailer hitch you are using only needs the brake wire hooked up. It has a chassis ground. Tape the other wires back out of the way. Also dont know how yuo are hooking it up, but I would not suggest using your trailer plug for wiring into that plug, in case you decide to use a trailer that will utilize the turn signals. Get some scothlocks and hook up only the brake line wire to your plug for the hitch,then you still have your other plug for a trailer still ready to go. Should work without a ground wire hooked up. I followed my wife today who was driving our Exploder and the hitch cover flashed when she flipped on the turn signal. No rewiring needed. Woohoo! Thanks for the input though.
