Scbasshunter
What is a good ibo speed? I always thought 300 was good but now I'm reading that its just ok?
bowhunter97
I guess that is just it the speed. I think people want the fastest bows just to have em. But i dont shoot one of those supper bows so idk.
dbHunterNY
well... my bow is 345 fps, however it's got a 6" brace height. anything 300+ is respectable. all the speed comes from somewhere and with a price. in general the faster it is, the shorter the brace height (less forgiving) or the harder it is to draw. redkneck
Most new bows nowadays will list IBO over 300, up to 350ish. Generally speaking you'll get a bit less. Don't get hung up with speed, they'll all get the job done. Find one that's got a smooth draw cycle, solid back wall, good grip, and quiet and you have a winner, whether the chrono says 275 or 310. Well said! The Indians use to kill them with a stick and a string and a little rock! Speed is not the biggest factor, you also have to include penetration, comfort, and knock down power! just like shooting the lightest arrows for more speed, the are not always the most dependable when driving them through the thick hide of a whitetail. hoosierhunter
IBO really doesn't matter bc no bow setup really fires that fast. It's based on 30 inch draw and a 360 grain arrow I believe. For example I shoot a 509 grain arrow at 70lbs with a 28.5 inch draw. My setup shoots about 274fps which gives me about 87ke. Scbasshunter
Should I aim low with a slower ibo speed?
redkneck
No! Sight in your equipment and put the pin on the spot.
arrow32
ibo speed No! Sight in your equipment and put the pin on the spot. Plus one. My hunting bow is rather slow for today's standards but it's dead on and its sighted in for the set up that I am using. Now when I was shooting leagues and what not I had other bows for that I cranked out over 300 with the bows always.
