your hunting buddy

I got a hunting buddy who I share land with. But my question is how big of an area would one suggest two people can hunt at one time. The area we hunt is somewhat big, just weirdly shaped and I think it compromises our efforts. Something just doesn't feel right with the way we are set up! I don't know maybe I am over thinking things!

Depends on a number of things. You don't want to over pressure a spot or area, hunt downwind of your buddy (or vice versa), or blow deer out of an area getting to & from your stands if you're hunting near one another. What's you and your buddy's attitude about how far apart you need to be hunting? Obviously, you don't want each other's wind blowing in the direction deer are expected to approach from for either one of you. You need to both look at that when you're choosing spots to hunt. Sometimes my hunting buddies & I could be 150 yards from one another then other times a mile or more. I know some guys that think they need a 1/4 mile betweeen them and another hunter regardless of the conditions. I don't but I don't want us hurting each other's chances either. Appears to be something you need to discuss with your buddy. Even though your hunting area is weirdly shapped you can't do anything about hunters on the other side of the property line either.

your hunting buddy

Well that was another issue was with the properties on one side of us. The are we are hunting is surrounded by cornfield. And there is or at least was at the time I was sitting in the stand noticed just how much activity was going on on each side of us! But I planned on talking to my buddy today about it. Like I said we share two different properties and maybe just alternate spots. He is a smart cookie I think he will get what I am saying!

Depends on how the land is laid out and on the factors mentioned above. We have a small property, only 60 acres and we have had 3 people hunt our land at the same time and all of us see different deer. Our biggest issue we have is with people on the property behind us crowding our lines and that compromising our hunting.

I would be more concerned with wind direction. If either of you are hunting in a location that the wind is carrying your scent into the area or near the other person then you are killing the other person's chances.

When my brother-in-laws and I hunted together we commonly set up within 100 yards or less of each other, but we always made sure to be aware of where we expected the deer to be/come from in relation to our scent stream.
