wtnhunt
new scent lok facemask while practicing last week. Anyone ever have issues with their facemask throwing off their anchor? Was planning on using this new scentlok facemask I picked up a while back rather than the mesh one I have used for years, but cannot seem to get my anchor right with the scentlok mask on. Consistently hitting about 6 inches to the left when I shot practing last week with the mask on. Had to dig out the old mask and shot fine with it, hit the same as without. VermontHunter
To be honest I can't find my anchor wearing any type of mask, I've tried and tried to get used to one while practicing and just can't seem to feel the string or kisser ,, so when hunting I pull my mask down ... redkneck
Never used a scent lok mask William. I usually wear something about like this:Never have an issue finding my anchor point with thin masks.
Rhino
Haven't had that issue with the ones I use William. I use 2 different types depending on the temp. One with a short bill on it for warm weather the other I wear a hat over it if I need one at all. I do have some other scent lok mask that I wouldn't use for bowhunting too. The one with the short bill is not on their site. It sort of looks like this but the cap bill is half the size of the one on this one and the materal below the cap is shorter and appears to be lighter weight than this one too. They don't make the other one without the bill anymore that I'm using. It's a micro fleece fiber that apparently isn't available anymore. It's a real soft material. If it gets real cold I'll wear a beanie over it. There's one made by Under Armour that may be what you're looking for but it's for cooler temps. Redhead has one they call Enduraskin that's for warmer weather hunting that stretches and conforms more to your face allowing for better feel. It's similar to the one John posted. wtnhunt
Thanks for the replies. I have a couple other ones, was going to go to the scentlok but it is not going to work unless I pull it down just prior to shooting, and not so sure I want that extra movement. I have a camoskinz mask similar to the one John posted, think I will just use the mesh one.
Jeramie
I wear a very thin camo neck gator. Its a slick material and literally as thin as a t-shirt. I hate for things to be over my face so I only have it up while hunting and almost never over my nose. Because its a tight neck gator it hugs my face and doesnt mess with my anchor.... This is close but not it. I buy them at Walmart pretty cheap. They arent scent lock but ive been using them for Many, Many years with lots of luck... I have one in every one of my hunting jacket pockets.
wtnhunt
Tried shooting with the mesh and the scentlok masks again this morning, only way I can get away with shooting the scentlok would be to pull it down under my chin before shooting, my luck a nice buck would show and I would forget to pull it down and remember after getting drawn and end up fumbling around to get it down. lol. The mesh one is so thin I shoot with it with no problems, will probably end up just using it.
dbHunterNY
yea william i don't really use one much. i can find my anchor, but notice it takes a little longer and feels different. when i do i'll use the HS mesh ones, but i rarely do. I don't use face paint either. Thought about it, but haven't. Guess I don't like the mess or being out in public with face paint. lol ....this is what i use now, when i do wear a mask.
