Scbasshunter
I finally found the deer! I had given up, but then the dog happened to wander upon a pile of blood a good 100yds away from the last drop of blood we found. He was lying in a ditch. That is the entrance hole. First deer with a bow!!! Woo hoo!!!!

Scbasshunter
We all agreed that he was not edible. He layed all night with guts hanging out in 70-75° temps. Muzzy MX3.
PotashRLS
Yes in deed. Congrats. Pay close attention to what this deer taught you. Every deer you take or are a part of goes into your memory bank. This will make you a better hunter and tracker as time goes on. By the picture you have a pretty classic gut shot with possible liver . The deer's behavior and actions will tell you a lot. We all strive to learn every time we step into the deer woods. Good Job! redkneck
Good post Tracey. Lessons learned: Aim better (lol) Back out when you jump one up You will find your greatest satisfaction from the skillet. Sawed of horns are better than nothing, but they will leave you feeling empty inside, or at least they do me. Hope you have good success soon. Maine Hntr
Nice Job SC, as others said way to stick with it. Even though the meat had spoiled you did your due diligence as a Sportsman and stuck with it.

Ravin R10 man
At least you stayed after it..congrats..if it was only overnight it should have been good to salvage backstraps and hind quarters I'd think...did you open him up or skin him after? That would be the best way to tell..Yup learn from it and go on

dbHunterNY
well despite you didn't get meat for the freezer, you still kept after it and found him.... that alone shows you care and is commendable. you just gained a ton of experience i'd think. many hunters have gone a long time before they shoot there first buck with a bow. Lee Lakosky, from "The Crush" hunting show, told me it took him 7 years before he shot his first buck with a bow. take what you've learned and apply that to the next one. Congrats!
