Goin' Huntin' Finally -- Sept 22 2012

As politics and politicking and chat about politicking goes on and on, I will finally be heading out to the California Sierra to hunt some bucks. A buddy and I will meet up at a bar and grille along the way, sometime tomorrow, and then caravan together to our camping area. Then in what's left of Friday evening we will scout a couple of spots that we had pre-scouted before, and then toss a coin. There are 4 likely spots that will hold bucks in them, and we will attack them each, one at a time, over the next 9 days of hunting them.

As far as the politicking goes, I think the latest Pew Poll has it at 51% to 37%, a big nose diving having happened due to the leak about the 47%-ers. I plan to retire on Social Security and use Medicare someday, so I guess that makes me a 47%-er. Even though I have paid into Social Security and Medicare my whole life, I guess I am still even so a 47%-er. I'm not sure how that works. It will be good to get away from that all, all that news on the tv, and get back into the woodlands again.

I've got my Realtree camo shirts, which I wear anytime I hunt with a rifle or a bow or a handgun. Love it. The deer seem to love it too. My headband is woodland camo, and my hat is digital camo. I have a black bug net that I wear over my head when the flies and mosquitos get too thick.

My boots are Realtree camo too, although you cant tell because my snake gaiters over them are just tan. The Realtree snake gaiters were all sold out when I got these.

Sighted-in my rifle at the shooting range again today, and the scope is right on, at both settings, the 2.5x and the 10x settings. So its a good scope, by Nikon, their Monarch series, which is completely accurate if you mount it correctly, with Lock-Tight and all, with a laser boresighter.

The Remington model 700 in 300 RUM groups well within 1 moa with premium factory ammo also from Remington. For big game I like 200 grain partitioned soft points. This bullet I have found knocks down all big game in North America in its tracks. No running, no blood trails, no tracking -- they drop right in their tracks. Hurts my shoulder, and I need to make sure the butt is wedged firmly in the hollow of my shoulder, not on my arm, or the scope will come back to bite me.

My daypack attached to my frame pack is also Realtree. Why go with anything else? So I am packing everything into my vehicle in the garage, and then I will wait until morning to head out, and try to get some sleep tonight.
