Turkeygirl Posted September 23, 2012 Report Share Posted September 23, 2012 Well my stupid horse attacked my pet gobbler....he's not standing on his right leg and the horse also tore his skin on the top of his back...it's good size. Not sure if the leg is broken or not...where the leg bone meats the foot, I could feel some movement there (I don't know if turkeys have ankles or not). The back wound I put some betadine and neosporin on, covered with gauze and have him in a box in the house where it is warm. Got some blue kote antiseptic spray for next time the bandage comes off....Not sure if my bird will make it through the night or not....he's sitting quietly in the box, his hen was yelping outside. Turkeys do have some movement in the leg joints not a lot, but some. The other thing that might help is pine tar salve. Other than that just keep him calm and let him rest with plenty of water. I have had chickens take serious damage and make it fine with no sign of injury. If it is broke you can use a stick and vet wrap to keep his leg stationary. Jsut keep on doing what you are doing and give him plenty of water and feed. With that blue stuff or the pine tar he will heal pretty quickly. Is he able to use his leg as of today?
