First Auction...

Went to my first auction yesterday and stood around for 4+ hours waiting for them to get to the 2 row corn planter I wanted. As I sat there watching, waiting, learning, and shooting the breeze with my buddy, I noticed a fair amount of people looking at the planter and I was worried I was going to get outbid. My buddy asked how high I was going to go and I said "I've wanted one of these for a long ... time, I'll go up to $400."

So the auctioneer finally got to the planter and 2 other guys were bidding and the auctioneer had his back to me. They got up to $185 before he even looked at me. Once he did, I kept nodding. Now that I had his attention he kept coming back to me. He started hitting one guy pretty hard to go up to $285 and the guy finally did and he turned to me and said "baabadadeee basdbbaasddddaaaa $285 will you go 3?" I nodded and the other guy dropped out. "Once, twice......SOLD for $300!"

So I got my planter, now I have to learn how to use it before April. :D

Those auctions could get addicting, lol.

Auctions are fun sometimes or a waste of time the others... I went to one a couple weeks ago with a couple things in mind. I ended up with one of the items at a pretty good price. I wish I had about 2-3 grand to spend because I could have really pimped out my shop as everything was going pretty reasonable, but I only had $100 to spend that day.

What kind of planter did you get? I picked up an old John Deere horse drawn type that was converted to 3point a couple months ago. I plan on using it next year but eventually want to upgrade to a no-til two row planter someday.

I loooooooooooooove auctions. They are addicting. You'l' get the bug now..

They are all over Oklahoma. One of the largest in the state is only about 10 miles from the house. You just have to know what youre going in for and what prices actually are.

I have seen old hay rings sale for $150 when they run that new. On the other hand I saw a 5' brush hog (bush hog) sale for $1 and an old player piano sell for $1 because no one wanted to load it. They are so much fun....

The one by my house covers about 20-acres and starts at 8:00. Even with about 5-auctions going at the same time it typically doesnt end until late that night. This is a consignment auction so you never know what you will see... its incredible.

Its put on by the Amish (Chupps). Great, great time. The Amish women setup around the auction and sale fresh foods, drinks, etc. Its literally an all day even and runs the first saturday of every month come rain, sleet, or shine...

They put pictures up the week of the auction when people start bringing thing in on Wednesday..

Congrats on the planter Chris! yea auctions tend to drag on and many times stuff goes pretty high. luck the auctioneer noticed you. generally it's a good idea to get in front of them and make eye contact, but not until after he/she starts the bidding. auctioneers that can talk like that are fun to listen to. just have to keep listening for the words or numbers you can make out clearly. you can get a lot of useful stuff cheap at auctions if you're lucky. if you're bringing something always drop your stuff off early so they're not getting to it too late in the day. also if it's something that's got an engine keep the key with you and start it every now and then to get peoples attention and then right before the bidding on it starts.

It's an International/McCormick Deering, so they tell me. It is red. I scraped off some old grease last night trying to find the model number with no luck.

One funny thing as I was scraping off about a quarter inch of old grease, I could see some words under the black stuff and it revealed itself one word at a time. It said "Remove ....old .....grease ....every..... season..." :D
