Jorden
So this year I decided to switch to the Rage 2-blade broadheads. I seem to be having a problem with keeping them closed. Anyone else have experiences with this. They dont seem to "click" close and I am apprehensive about shooting them for fear they will open during flight. Also the o-rings keep breaking. Idk if that has anything to do with it or not. Like I said, this is my first year using them. Thoughts?
N8J
Problems with Rage? Just bout chisel tip first time for me too but mine seem to be fine and mine also came with the shock collar I guess that's suppose to help them from opening too soon! Check into the shock collar
dbHunterNY
i shoot them... sometimes from being in the packaging so long or being closed the o-ring gets dented or deformed from the blades. if you rotate the o-ring so the blades close on a fresh spot they work better. one thing i've done for stalking is to take double sided fletch tape and go once around the blade lobes so the tape just barely overlaps. this prevents any brush or grass from opening them. i've gotten pass throughs with the blades taped like this too (at 30 yards, 380 grain arrow, out of a 317 fps IBO bow, quartering away at times). Jeramie
I bought them last year but never let them fly.... I wasnt crazy about the slip design but hopefully will get to test them this year. If they dont perform as stated its back to Muzzy... Regardless, mine has never had any issues with the blades staying closed.
PriceRacing35
Problems with Rage? I have shot 3 deer with rage. One of which was my biggest bow buck to date. Bad shot, adrenaline. Blah blah blah. Ended up shooting him in the right rear ham. Put him down in 50 yards. Femoral artery. Satisfied that wouldn't have happened with a muzzy. But. This year I switched to the chisel tips. Shot a doe at 42 yards Saturday. I hit her straight in the shoulder. It was not a complete pass through. Had excellent blood trail. She only went 20 yards. But. The first time out of the package. The blades would not stick inside the o-ring. I change the o-ring with the replacement. It worked fine. Talked to my boss today. He shot a yearling. With a three blade. He had to track her over 400 yards. Only one blade deployed. Don't know if that's a one time thing. Or bad luck. Regardless, he threw away the other two and went back to two blades.
RangerClay
It was that exact reason why I got rid of my Rage 2-blades!! Damn things always were popping open when they weren't suposed to. I didn't have any confidence in them because I was always checking it every 5 minutes. I sold them and went back to my Slick Tricks. whitetailfreak55
Same problem I had last year. Figured I'd give them a good shot but after I put them on my rest the one blade deployed. Like what was said above I had zero confidence in them from looking at them every 5 minutes to see if they were staying put
bowhuntMN
I've had that problem with a few of the broadheads I've bought from Rage but I've just kept them as backup heads, I've never shot them. I'll have to try what dbHunterNY said and see how that works. If not I can get ahold of my buddy who was an engineer on the design team for Rage and see if he can hook me up with some new ones lol
darrellva
Problems with Rage? I been shooting the two blade Rage for 5 or 6 seasons now I've taken 25 to 30 deer with them and not lost the first deer I've shot so far. The blades not clicking shut has happened to me a few times but like someone said rotate the o-ring and it should fix that problem. I to have worried about the blades deploying in flight so while practicing I have taken and unhooked the blades from the o-ring and shot it them out to 30 yards I still hit my mark with each shot andy block had cuts in where the blades opened and did what they was suppose to. Again this is what I found out of my setup you may try it with yours and see if you still hit the target. It took the worry out of me but its habit for me to pop the blades loose and feel them click back on once I get in the stand and arrow goes on the rest. Flintlock1776
I tried the mechanicals some time back and I did not like all the fiddlin' to keep it all together. Back to Magnus 4 Blade Buzz cuts, never had an issue with them.
Randyman
Rotating the O-ring is what I do when the blades don't want to stay closed. Seems to work for me. I think as it is time to replace mine, I am going to go with the new Extremes. They have gotten rid of the O-ring and replaced it with the shock collar, which looks to me like it will be much better than the O-ring. Also, they have replaced the pain in the Butt pin that holds the blades in the ferrule with a screw.
soillap
I got two free packages of the 3 blades last year. They seemed to work fine but i felt the slip cam and o ring system was kinda flimsy so I went back to grim reapers. As i said though they did well when shooting deer for me. I do have many friends that shoot them and they also say to just rotate the o ring.
