High Country
Shot placement is the largest piece of the archery puzzle...I actually switched from Muzzy MX3s to the Rage 2-blade...my affair with the Muzzy's began with three kills (all falling in sight) though none left a blood trail (though I recovered all three arrows)...then I lost the next three deer (same center rib-cage broadside shots) because none left a blood trail (still recovered all three arrows)... I have never figured out why I could not get a blood trail with Muzzy heads... First day out this year, the Rage opened a 2+ inch wide hole all the way through and the doe ran about 40 yards before stopping, looking around and falling over, leaving a massive blood trail. Turkeygirl
That's why I stick to fixed blade...I dont' want to worry about an expandable not expanding...glad the doe got found!
MCH
I lost one of the biggest bucks I've ever drawn down on shooting rages. Decent shot placement, decent blood trail but no deer. That being said, the worst blood trail I've ever followed came from a great shot with Muzzy's. I still shoot Rages. Stopped blaming my broadhead a long time ago. Rages do have a lot of bad experiences posted throughout the internet but you can expect that from the most popular broadhead. With the bloodtrails I'm getting, I'm sticking with 'em myself. I shoot both fixed and mechanical heads, things are going to happen that just can't be explained at times, you just have to move on to the next experience and enjoy the outdoors. abear491
I have shot a little bit of everything over the past few years. I have lost one deer with a rage because of a poor shot. I haven't always had the best blood trails but they have all went down within sight of the stand. My wife bought me the rage extremes for a suprise and I shot a doe with one on wednesday morning blood was everywhere and she made it 35 yards. I'm not saying rages are the best but I have had very good luck with them
msman825
(She was double shoulder hit at 20 yards.) man thats a hard shot for any broad head
Flintlock1776
I had nothing but problems with various expandable broad heads. I stick with Magnus fixed four blade buzz cuts and they did awesome jobs on all the deer I shot.
bghunter777
Not all Mechs are created equal and should not all be grouped together bad or good! Rage IMO are among the worst penetrating heads on the market that being said I use mechanical exclusively just choose wisely.
soillap
Shot a Doe this morning using three blade rage at 20 yards and had complete pass through double lung. The doe only ran about 60 yards and my arrow and the spot she was standing was covered with blood. As soon as she started running the blood trail stopped and there was no blood from where she stood to where she fell. Not blaming rage heads but this is the second time this has happened to me using rages and think its interesting results. With good placement they drop quick but not every shot is a great shot so I believe I'll be switching back to fixed heads. Good luck all. dbHunterNY
first deer of the season this year. taken a couple weeks ago. at 12 yards the titanium Rage had a complete pass through and was stuck in the dirt. brought it back home and cleaned it out. no bent or chipped blades. i touched them up with a sharpening stone and they're good to go. i should add that both sides were the typical 3" gash. little blood for the first 25 yards, then some blood making an easy enough trail to follow. then at 40 yards - 70 yards it was a path of blood about 2.5 feet wide. they will bleed if you hit them right it just takes time for it to hit the ground. jnestle
similar experience I have had virtually the same experience twice. I went back to fixed only. Don't think I will ever try expandables again
rfonker
no rage for me .5% chance of mechanical failure is enough for me. ( like pollitics) Im using Ram cats, and will never switch. Compared 5 broadheads through a big pumpkin and was vary suprized. the result was a blackbear that went 30yards. My guide asked how i got a gun! Exit hole was the size of a baseball.
