PriceRacing35
Well Sunday morning, it was cold. I think here in SW Missouri it got down to 30degrees. Our deer didn't move till late. I saw the first does at 8:45, then 2 more at 9:15, then two more at 10:20. I got down to get some coffee and pull the cards on the trail camera. I walked a new fence line that's been under dispute with our neighbor.(he put it up without surveying and following the common fence law). But I found what I would call a scrape. Wasn't exactly clean. But the licking branch was hit hard. Got to the top of the ridge and found this doe had gotten stuck in the fence. Found this very sad. Knowing I had the feeling opening weekend that I needed to walk this fence. Maybe I could've helped. Maybe not. Went from the fence to the edge of the timber by one of our stands to make sure it was still in safe order. Straps were good. I looked 60 yards back. And found a monster rub! Fresh as fresh gets. I put the trail can up about 20' away. Hoping to catch the culprit taking this trail.
c_lou
Mother Nature is far crueler than any ethical hunter could be. It's sad to think how long she probably was there sufferring.
Turkeygirl
That deer looks like it's been there awhile....One year while helping a neighbor post his lease, found the skeleton of a shed buck, all bones at this point, with his back legs all twisted up in the fence...that was a shame... MUDRUNNER
Man, that's a shame about the doe. We found two dead does this weekend too. If I had to guess I would say EHD is to blame. I did see a few does and one little buck, but did manage to shoot my first turkey Saturday morning, so not too bad of a weekend.
PriceRacing35
my weekend. how was yours? I felt bad for leaving her skeleton in fence. But i know If I would've tried to take her down. She would've fell apart onto the neighbors property. I have enough respect not to do that. Plus he would've thrown a fit. So I'll let him do what he will. I know he's seen her. He's got cattle in there. It's a shame for sure. She was young. Maybe a year or two old. Shoobee
We tend to see a lot of fawn bones scattered around our county archery park. The deer here are plentiful and the coyotes start yelping just at dusk. When your neighbor's fence when up, it must have been across a popular deer trail, and the doe must have hopped over it, with the fawn being unable to. That's my CSI analysis. So I would not blame Mother Nature as much as your neighbor. For some oddball reason he chose to raise a really high fence. Wonder what he/she is worried about? There are actually 4-5 trails across that fence. It's a very popular ridge for the deer. There had been a fence there for almost 40years until he decided to have it bulldozed to clear out the overgrowth. He was ignorant and put the fence up where he wanted to. But my guess was the same. That it was a fawn. We do have too many does. And as well. Too many coyotes. And it's only a 5-wire. I'm guessing he just hit rock and got lazy. All he has is probably 50head of cattle and we usually lease our 80 for cattle. But this year we did not.
Ethan Givan
We found a doe hung in a fence a couple years ago. She hadnt been in there too long, she was still fightin it pretty hard. We had an old blanket in the truck, so we put it over her head to calm her down, then we got her foot free of the wire. She was using the leg that was caught when she took off so it wasnt broken. She should have made it just fine. Too bad about the one you found, it is sad to think how long it hung there before it died.
wtnhunt
That is a shame. Saturday was a day of bad shifting winds here, saw a couple deer Saturday afternoon late though. Sunday morning was really good for movement here for sure after the cold front coming through. Don't know for sure how many deer I did see, had 8 come by at one point, only fawns in range in that group. Later on had 4 more pass by in front of me and the buck I shot came in from behind me a little after 7. Unfortunately I guess I had a twig with some leaves I missed seeing when I took my shot and I hit the deer back. After I shot the deer he layed down and bedded 25 yards away from where I shot him facing away from me. Too bad I had no clear opening where he was. Watched a couple more does come through while he was laying bedded. Spent Sunday afternoon(6 hrs) tracking, blood was already dry or drying out when we picked up the trail, indicating we had not jumped the deer, but we did not find him last night and my daughter got concerned about our flashlights getting weak and the movement she thought was coyotes getting closer to her while I was out ahead of her so we called it a night about 8:30. Went back this morning for about 3 hours and going to go back this afternoon.

The_Kat
Too bad about the doe. Jenn called me one day last year about this time cause she spotted a young doe trapped in the fence. She was completely calm when I walked up to her. I just picked up front end up and flipped her over backwards and out she came. She did bound off or anything....just stood there catching her breath. After a moment she walked off about 10 yards and turned back to look at me as if to say thanks and wondered into the nearby trees.

CamoGuy
Had another lame day. There is a tree farm within about 1/4 mile of my favorite stand and I think that they have gotten damage permits and started slaughtering every deer they see. I have hunted there 3 mornings and the closest I got to seeing a deer was hearing one snort at me just before daylight as I walked in Saturday. Have seen a few tracks but nothing major. Not even seeing droppings. No scrapes. I have hunted this same area every since I was a teen...guess it is time to look for a new hunting area. Tominator
Got out for about 1 hour after my son's football game Sunday. Too busy Saturday and Sunday morning. I'm afraid that's how my weekends are going to go for this season.
