Scbasshunter
What is the purpose of a wrist sling on a bow?
kcall
Wrist sling use. So you won't drop your bow after release! Some people need it and some people don't!
MUDRUNNER
It lets you keep a loose grip on the bow handle. A looser grip reduces torque on the bow.
wtnhunt
It lets you keep a loose grip on the bow handle. A looser grip reduces torque on the bow. Yep. Was just going over this yesterday with a kid who has never hunted and was asking for tips for shooting a bow.
MCH
But be careful how you install it. From experience, a tight wrist sling can cause bow torque. You want it loose over your wrist.

You want it loose over your wrist. also very true it's a safety net for your bow so you don't drop it.... almost all the time you'll instinctively hang on to it after the shot. however, you can't be thinking about this or you'll grip the bow at the shot, thus inducing torque and a poor shot. a wrist sling helps you not worry, so you don't grip it until after. Scbasshunter
Wrist sling use. If I'm shooting tight groups and never drop my bow, would a wrist sling be a waste of money and unnecessary equipment added to my bow?
Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
I quit using one when I bought my z7 a couple years ago and it hasn't caused me any trouble. I keep a pretty loose grip, haven't dropped the bow yet.
hoosierhunter
Wrist sling use. Yeah I have one on the bow but I've yet to ever use it in all my years of shooting.
dbHunterNY
sounds like you're probably fine without one. check this video out about 3 min 35 sec in. bill winke kills monster bucks every year and talks little about what he holds his bow and why or why not to use a sling. it might help you make your decision.... Tony
Re: Wrist sling use. For me i must have one. The few shots i shoot during bowhunting that are a complete surprise i have to have wrist sling. If i didn't my bow would land on the ground. I use just a piece of D loop material to make mine. They must be loose but still be tight enough to be effective.
Scbasshunter
I got one for my bow and I kinda like it. Plus, I think it makes the setup as a whole look better.
