lethimgrow
Here's a video on some trials a guy is doing regarding deer seeing trail cameras. Basically what he is saying is it's the camera box itself that deer see more so than the flash or glow. He proved it by placing a camera head high pointed down on a camera at waist level. The waist level camera had no batteries in it, was sprayed down with scent killer and some deer would still notice it. I could see this happening right after placing it, but this was still happening after the camera had been out for months. He has lessened the negative reactions from deer by placing his cameras head high and above and has noted far fewer deer busting his cameras. I can't count how many times I've gotten a picture or video of buck on a scrap this time of year only to never see him again and I've always thought it was because of the presence of the camera. Have you guys ever tried putting your cameras higher and has it helped with less deer noticing it?
hoosierhunter
Trail cameras a spooking deer Yep we put some cameras about 6-10 feet up on trail pods. Don't be confused though because a white flash will spook deer. A lot does depend on their personality though. Some will tolerate it and others will not. I have been on stand when a 3 year old walked up to a scrape and got flashed at eye level. He literally jumped about 6 feet in the air and ran behind the camera acting dazed. I about fell out of the stand laughing!

dbHunterNY
yea they know it's there and like Pat said some are tolerant and some don't. i've seen that some that don't eventually get used to the camera in that one spot.
Ethan Givan
I have gotten alot of pics of big mature bucks on an old Moultrie camera that has flash. The same bucks stuck around for multiple pics for multiple days. Im not saying flash doesnt spook some deer, but it doesnt seem to bother them around here. swohiodave
I have pics on my infrareds of deer with their faces up against the camera. I also have seen the two biggest bucks on the property posing for multiple shots.
