wtnhunt
Been hunting this property about 20 years and seen a lot of different animals and birds over the years, seems every year I see something I had not seen before and had another first for me this weekend. We have seen a couple we thought were immature bald eagles(no white head or tail feathers) a few times from the house, but never seen a mature bird I could postively identify for certain. Saturday afternoon sitting in my climber about 20 ft up a tree about 8 yards off a food plot while listening to the squirrels and turkeys I had a mature bald eagle fly across at the edge of the woods almost at eye level just off the edge of the trees. Thought it was pretty cool, unfortunately did not have the video camera with me.
redkneck
That is cool. I think I saw one about 6 years ago at the camp. Very high up, but wingspan way too big to be a buzzard, but would have loved to see him up close. The state has tried in a couple sights here to get them started, don't know how successful they have been. Would be very cool to see them from time to time. The Bug House
Yes, really cool to see them! I'm close to the CT River valley and we have a fairly strong breeding population in the area. I've seen them a number of times in the past few years. Last Fall I was loading wood into the basement and a HUGE adult circled overhead for about 30 minutes. I estimated a wingspan over 6', I watched it for about a 1/2 hour like I mentioned, I don't think it beat its wings once the whole time. Tominator
Their population is on the rise here, but I haven't seen one in a few years. I have seen an osprey 2 years running now. I haven't duck hunted in a number of years, but one of the last hunts I was on, my buddy and I were picking up the decoys and as I turned back to grab more, stepped out from behind a giant tree, I scared the bajeebers out of an eagle that was on final approach on one of our decoys! That's pretty cool Willam.
whitetailfreak55
Have a good population here but never seen one very close. That's awesome to see!
gzilla45
Fortunate to have good populations around here. There's a couple that will steal fish sitting out on the ice at one of my favorite ice fishing lakes. They are certainly awesome to see up close. Very majestic. Shaun_300
We're seeing quite a few of them lately too. Within the past 5 years of so the population has really increased. Before it was extremely rare to even see one. My uncle is a trapper in the winter and leaves carcasses out for them, he has hundreds of trail cam pics of clusters of eagles. Both bald and Golden eagles. HUGE and beautiful birds.
Trevor
I saw one driving along the Lake Erie shore in the spring. It was flying fairly low and I think it had a small orange cat or fox in its talons. I don't know for sure what it was carrying. That's the only one I have ever seen. Yeah, had seen birds here in the past way up that I did not think were buzzards, but could not positively say they were eagles. This one Saturday there was no mistaking, only time I have been as close to one before was at a zoo.
Dawg
We have a few that hang around Sam Rayburn Lake, which is five miles from the house. See them quite often when fishing. Very cool birds to watch.
HUNTINGMAN
Been more and more sightings here in ky also. I even think I seen a golden eagle last year,it was way to big to be a young bald. It was eating on a dead carcas of some type,I know it wasn't a buzzard because I got a good look at it as it wasn't 20 yards off the road,it was clearly a bird of pray. clrj3514
I've seen 2 in my 19 years of living in southeastern NC. The most recent was either last year or 2010 but I'm not sure. It was flying over a cutdown near where I hunt. The other was probably 7 or 8 years ago while I was turkey hunting with my Daddy. This bird was flying down a river & was absolutely HUGE!
