dbHunterNY
I'll have to read this later.
hoosierhunter
Read it and although I do believe it I'm not sold b/c the definition was a deer with at least a 50% smaller side. There are a ton of deer in the 7 point category that this study would completely ignore that I consider cull deer.
Rhino
Read a few of these type articles too John. Read part of this one. This one in particular talks more about one side of the rack vs the other. The pic appears to be a young buck. I don't usually try to think of a deer as a cull or not until he's mature. My trail cam pics have shown mature 4.5 year old 6 point bucks continue to grow inferior racks with age. I took one 6.5 year old 6 out a few years ago and had pics of him as a 4.5 & 5.5 year old 6. Got a big wide MS 7 point this year (2" G3 on his right side) that basically the same as he was last year. I think he's 6.5 this year & he's just a little wider and heavier mass now. I have several reasons for smacking those mature cull bucks with less than 8 points (my def of culls) besides gene pool issues. One is they eat just as much as a buck you want to grow & there's only so much out there for the herd. They can also break up the racks of other nice bucks out their, sometimes injure or even kill them. As you know, body size dictates dominance not rack size. abrown
I wouldn't say body size has everything. I think it's more the personality of the buck that dictates dominancy. If body size was the issue, then mulies would be spanking the whitetails, instead of how it actually is.
