Scbasshunter
If there are deer in a field or food plot that I have my climbing stand on the edge of and I spook them out while I walk to my stand in the am while its still dark, am I wasting my time hunting it or will they come back? soillap
That just happened to me this morning. I spooked a mature buck and two does that came back in twenty minutes later. I know it was them cause the buck was about a two or three year old with a 5 or 6 inch spike. Very weird looking. Lol
Ethan Givan
Yeah its not good. I always try to avoid feeding areas in the mornings, and try to get in a funnel or travel route where I will catch the deer coming back from feeding to bed. Feeding areas are better to hunt in the afternoons. The fewer deer that know your in the area, the better your chances of seeing natural deer movement. wtnhunt
Depends. Really does not help you if they watch you climb your climber or ladder though, they will have that spot pegged if you are not careful. Try to hunt food plots in the afternoons when hunting by myself, but often will take kids to plots in the mornings due to having a nice box blind that keeps them out of the wind, we had a cool north wind this morning with temps in the 30's. Had deer blow at us on the way this morning taking my 11 year old, that was about 40 minutes before legal shooting light and we were less than 50 yards from where we were going when they blew. Don't think they ever knew what we were though, we used the terrain and stayed low at the edge and they saw something(us) probably were not sure what it(us) was. Had 3 bucks come out a little after 8 am, about 2 hours later, and my daughter had some great shot opportunities but think she was too nervous to shoot. I have killed a few decent deer after bumping them on the way. Sometimes especially during the rut it is tough to get to stands on our property without bumping deer, does not help either when we have deer on the edge of our hardwoods in eyeshot of the house and they can see us walk out our door. too_pointer
There is a good chance they might come back. I think it's very important that the wind is correct so they don't smell you. too_
Scbasshunter
Spooking deer in the morning. If I spook them, is it not possible to have other deer come back after daylight breaks? I figure I can't shoot until daylight anyways.
bowhunter97
It is very possible they will come back. Most of the time they arent extremely scared they just dont know what you are in the dark. It is more of how close you get is what scares them not the noise. I learned this from hunting out here in knee deep water. There is no sneaking in silently in that lol.
hoosierhunter
Spooking deer in the morning. You are educating the deer every time they come I contact with you.
clrj3514
You are educating the deer every time they come I contact with you. Very true. I think depending on how much pressure the deer are used to you'll get different reactions. A friend of mine ran several deer out of a field going in & killed the buck of the group less than 30 minutes later.
PriceRacing35
You are educating the deer every time they come I contact with you. Very true. Happened to me last year. Spooked a group of does twice. They ended up spending most of their time around that stand and bedding within 100 yards of it. Just to watch for me entering.
