TreeStandBowHunter
I live in Eastern NC and we had maybe 40mph (tops) here over the last few days. Total rain fall maybe two inches... but it just brushed up against us down here, nothing major at least where I am at. We had much more rain and much higher winds with some of them crazy thunderstorms we had here over the summer.
jbeck
Yep we are going to take one in the teeth, bilco is loaded with wood, generator is working and sitting on the back porch, 6 five gallon buckets filled for flushing toilets. Oh and the beer is on ice I'm ready.

ruttinbuc
Sitting through it now. This thing is really winding up south of me as it made landfall a bit ago. The lights are still on which is a good thing. Pray for those taking the brunt of this thing. There is already wide devastation along the coast. Turkeygirl
I was working last night - probably around 8 or so we lost power and the hospital generator kicked on...the entire town was black. Then around 10 the generator quit for about a minute and I was standing in radiology and everything was pitch black until the PA came waltzing down the hall with his flashlight, lol. I guess some type of power surge or something so when the generator came back on, the phones in the entire building were dead for a little bit. Drive home wasn't too horrible. Never lost power at home...
wtnhunt
Hope all is ok for you Mike. Just saw a press conference with Christie and some video, what a terrible mess. Prayers on the way for all those who have been hit by this storm.
redkneck
Yeah looks like a big mess up there, I hope you all are safe.
Strut10
Nothing too major here, thankfully. A whisker over 3" of rain and a bunch of wind. The wind did snap off my mom & dad's aluminum flagpole about 2 feet up from the ground. Dad figured it had to take somewhere around 65-70 mph to do that. The Bug House
Not to bad here, 50ish mph winds and about 2" of rain. Nothing compared to Irene in these parts. My in-laws on Long Island on the other hand are only now realizing the scope. I love them dearly but they are some of the most lackadaisical people I know. Despite my warnings and encouragement, they did NOTHING to prepare. With the widespread damage now they are facing 10+ days without power and have little food, almost no fuel in the car and no way to charge electronics....in fact they have no backup systems whatsoever....no heat, no food, no water......I hope they find a caring neighbor. ruttinbuc
Hope all is ok for you Mike. Just saw a press conference with Christie and some video, what a terrible mess. Prayers on the way for all those who have been hit by this storm. William, thanks for the prayers. We were pretty much spared anything as serious as many have been as a result of this horrific storm. I lost power shortly after my post on this thread. It returned around 10 AM this morning. I was shocked to see the devastation to the eastern seaboard from the storm surge. It will take years to return these areas to what they once were. Seaside Heights was a fond memory of my youth and beyond here in NJ. I spent 2 summers there when I toured with a band in the early 80's. It is heartbreaking to see what happened there and other famous shore points like Tuckerton and Pt Pleasant.. What was surprising here is the amount of people who seemed to be adrift after the fact. There were people all over the roads looking for gas and supplies in a small oasis here and there. For the most part they were out of luck as they drove in circles with roads cut off and detours of unimaginable routes from downed trees and power lines. Those places that did have power and open were chaos. Edited October 31, 2012 by ruttinbuc
Adjam5
Glad you werent affected much Mike except for power loss. We did OK here in Rockland. No damage, power out for short time. But in Sullivan, where I was. They took a BIG hit there. Wide spread power outages and down trees and lines all over. I was up at hunting camp and we lost power like Monday afternoon. I am sure glad I have a small generator that kept me powered up somewhat. I couldnt take 3 days of no shower so I came home today and will go back up tomorrow afternoon. I did luck out with the storm though. I didnt usually park my car where I usually do...A felled tree from my neighbors across the road would have crushed it. Is that luck or what? NYC and surrounding beach areas got hit really hard. Prayers and thoughts out to those folks.

Prayers and thoughts out to those folks. Makes you wonder why you didn't park in the usual spot, Anthony. I'm thinking someone was looking out for you. I'm glad you fared well with this beast. I can't imagine how many billions this storm will add up to. NJ is going to get tough on the price gougers that always show up when people need the good of humanity the most. I need to go check my woods. It seems the higher altitudes took a lot of wind damage.
