PriceRacing35
After walking to a stand in the very back of our 80 acres, I found that the rope to the ladder support and the strap to the stand and been cut. And the strap was taken. I decided to move the stand. There are 3 houses within a few hundred yards up on a heavily wooded ridge. I moved the stand even closer in an area we call the sanctuary. Due to a deep creek on side and the houses on the ridge on the other side. In the middle. It is THICK, but the deer travel a trail so much that there is no brush at all. You can see the trail for 100 yards in both direction. I hope to hunt this during the rut. All day. Hope that this stand is not stolen. Should I have done this. Or should I try to conceal a camera around the stand to keep watch??
WStreblo
stupid is as stupid does. A camera works great if they come in during the day time but of they come in at low light that flash will set them on a mission to pull your camera as well. Seems like whoever is doing this could have done worse and is only trying to tick you off... Find out who it is then drag em behind the woodshed and beat em
PriceRacing35
stupid is as stupid does. There are three likely culprits. A retired preacher who isn't a decent man, the older man that lives in the house closest to the stand. Which is probably 150yards away. Easily seen from his house. Or the Amish who never read no trespassing signs and will jump every fence they can for dinner. Which is okay. I understand they have a family to feed. But stealing is not okay. And our conservation agent could care less about poachers or illegal hunting tactics. We called him 2 years ago about poaching and nearly being shot by neighbors driving around in a CRP field shooting off the cab from a flatbed dodge. They fired nearly 200 rounds on opening weekend. Half of which you could hear tumbling through the tree tops.
PriceRacing35
stupid is as stupid does. As for a camera. I definitely need one there anyways on that deer trail. But I don't want it stolen. I would give it two weeks before it was gone.
whitetailfreak55
Is there anyway you can hang the camera further up the tree and angle it down?
PriceRacing35
Yes I could, but it would be about 20' up and I would like to see what buck/bucks are using that trail. And I don't know that it would trigger that far up. Attached are a couple pictures of that area. Our property line is just due south and also east. To the south is the ridge with the house and to the north is the creek that runs through. To my east are 2 draws that funnel into the ridge and the trail is on the bottom side of the ridge. Turkeygirl
I personally doubt it would be the Amish....if they are anything like the Amish that live around me, they abide by strong Biblical principlesand is not of their nature to harm someone else.... PriceRacing35
stupid is as stupid does. I wouldn't think it was them. We have been more and than lenient with them in the past. They are a nice family and very respectful. I'm just glad I saw the missing strap before I tried climbing up in it. It's moved and restrapped. Guess ill find out if its gone Friday morning.
