******UPDATE****** BBD in Manitoba

Recommended Posts

i've shot deer with a muzzleloader right through the heart and had no blood trail. if it didn't look like it flinched or reacted then it'd be easy to think you missed.

It can be a struggle to get good blood trails with muzzleloaders. It defies logic that a slug that big doesn't put good blood on the ground but that is the case all too often. My current set up is good with Hornady SSTs but will be trying Barnes Expanders this year to compare.

Unless Tim has sponsors that he has to keep happy, it would be interesting to know what his exact muzzleloader set up is so we can all learn.

Glad he can close the book on this hunt.

Updated info from Tim while on his next hunt in Ill.

Heres some info on Manitoba. had posted it as a miss because at impact ten to twelve drops of blood then 000. there were 3 trails that split. from there i followed each trail for 250 to 300 yds each with zero blood. Gage found him 250 yds farther. very happy with him. wish we had recovery on film but hey its hunting. wolves at on me TIM

Wow....what a buck Tim! I shot a doe one year during shotgun season....thankfully there was snow on the ground....I followed just drops of blood for a few hundred yards till i caught up to her, made a head shot to finish her. Well my first shot was just in front of the one shoulder, hit lung...she was just plain tough. If it wasnt' for snow, I may not have found her.
