WStreblo
I sat in the stand all day and didnt see a deer until 1pm and it was a buck cruising for does. Seen 9 deer all day and all 9 were bucks ranging from a spike to a true knee shaker drop tine that crept in on me after a rattling sequence and couldn't get him in the open to lay him over. Besides him the other 6 bucks that came in to investigate wouldn't come I'm any closer than 40 yds. The only reason I can figure big boy came in as close as he did is because there was a little 8 pt out in front of me. Any advice to get these bucks to close the distance???? VermontHunter
If your bucks are cruising for Does like you suggest, I would use a drag line soaked with estrus and walk in from the spot they are entering from and circle your stand location before getting into your stand. This has helped me a couplw times before. Just a suggestion ..
WStreblo
need fast advice I use a drag and there is so much estrous on the ground already! Just seems like they know better
hoosierhunter
need fast advice My guess is that there was not enough terrain or cover where your stand is located. If a deer can see where the sound is coming from but nothing is there the gig is up. Yes he came in bc of the other buck being there. The only way to pull deer closer is have your stand where they can't see very far around you. Top of a ridge, thick cover, draws, blow downs, etc. Also do not rattle to a deer that is coming, even if he hangs up. A buck fight makes much more noise than some horns bashing together. Rattle at a mature buck inside 100 yards while he's looking and your almost guaranteed to send him the other way.
whitetailfreak55
If your legal to use decoy might try one of those. They are expensive but work. Try a buck decoy and then put out your rattling sequence
