broke in the accura this afternoon

Hunted the same stand that the wife killed her buck out of on Sunday. Really thought the deer would feed heavy this afternoon, but did not see a thing until this deer showed up. Had grunted a few sequences, been hearing a few bucks grunting, it is that time. The buck showed up a little before 5, he was working a scrape. He had his head in the oak limbs and was a little difficult to tell what I was looking at. He was about 80 yards out where he was working the scrape but it was real overcast and misting a little and my eyes been bothering me the past few days. First look I did not think he was good enough, then picked up the binos and thought maybe he was a little better than I initially thought. He turned and saw his right side was past his ears and got the gun up. Put the scope on him and he started walking away, gave out a meeeaah and he turned and I got the crosshair settled and squeezed. Broadside shot, he took off hard and saw him run down the hill as the smoke cleared and heard him crash down in the woods. Think he made it maybe 60 yards. Passed a little bigger buck last year with the ml'er and ended up that season going without killing a deer, allowed 2 more bucks so this does not end my season.

Think I am going to like this cva accura setup, bought it earlier this year so the wife and I could both be out at the same time with ml'ers. Topped with a nikon prostaff bdc. Using 240 grain xtp mags and 115 grains triple 7.

Dang William the whole family is knocking them down! yesterday was one of those"magic"days that everywhere I looked I saw deer on the way home, about like the dems I saw at the polls they just came put of nowhere. Wish I could have been on the stand too. Congratulations bud!

Early yet. lol. Pretty sure Christina is gonna be out to top her mother's deer, they have a competition of sorts going on now I think. Nicole had an opportunity in the same field from a different setup. Got to post the youth hunt video. My goal now is back to focussing on getting the kids on deer. I will get Nicole back out during the early rifle season. Got a 16 year old that has never hunted I will be taking out during the rifle season too.

Trail cam pics this year have not convinced me we have anything better around other than one 8 that I know is probably 17 inches inside. This one was 15 inside, good enough for the backyard this time around.

Congratulations William...sounds like that's a hot stand this year.

Usually is. I had a few breaks in my runs from that stand, but I am usually good for one deer from that stand every year. I get opportunities on something there every year.

Congrats I'd sure b happy:)

Oh I am. It is a real good deer for this area. He has a lot of junk around his bases, couple are scoreable points.

Thanks everyone.

Today looks to me to have the makings to be one of those "magic" days too. Clouds just now breaking, going to be cold tonight. If this wind lays down, should be good.

Nice buck! How ya like that Nikon with the BDC?

Happy with the scope so far, what I would expect from a nikon. Hoping during the post season to play around with extending the range on out and figuring which circles are good to where beyond the first one.
