smha6784
I have heard that in order to shoot spitfire maxx that you need lots of energy. I shoot an older browning bow at 70lbs with carbon impact hunter 6000 XLT arrows. Will the blades deploy if I shoot them with this set up? P.s. This is my first year hunting with a bow. dbHunterNY
they will deploy with a kids bow even, but the problem is you're lacking energy compared to newer bows for penetration. also your arrows are on the light side for 70lbs of draw weight which will slow down much quicker when impacting the deer... i think they're around 8gr/in of shaft length. think about an 18 wheeler and a compact car hitting something with the car going only a little faster. the 18 wheeler is still the worse impact. also the foldback blade design uses up more energy than the slip cam design like on the NAP kill zone where the blades slide back. if you go with a mechanical i'd go with something with a lesser cutting diameter like the NAP shockwave. preferably i'd go with a fixed blade if you can get them to fly well or maybe something like the NAP blood runner so you get more penetration. bigger the cutting diameter, then more you have to push through the animal. there's other brands like Rage and TrophyRidge that make smaller cutting diameter mechanicals. i just stuck with the brand of the head you posted about. smha6784
spitfire maxx question So what your saying is rage might be the way to go for me?
RackBlaster
I've been shooting the spitfire's since 2003 been thru 3 diff. bows, Bear Whitetail, Golden eagle, and now Bowtech and had pass thru's on every one. I went from aluminum arrows to carbon Never have I had an issue with these broad heads .
bbarcheryhunter
I shot the 2 blade spitfire broadheads then switched over ti the 3 blade. Always had pass thur unless I hit shoulder and then it always droped them in there tracks. I'm shooting a Martin jaguar at 70 lbs
dbHunterNY
So what your saying is rage might be the way to go for me? not really saying to use Rage. what i'm saying is for mechanicals is spitfires may work with you shooting 70lbs. spitfires are a great mechanicals. however, it would definitely help penetration if you went with a smaller cut, tried to use heavier arrows, and even better do both. I do shoot Rage heads and they work great. If you choose Rage go with the Rage 40KE for your older setup. you could definitely try the spitfires and if you don't get enough penetration then try what i said above in this reply.
