KYINarcher
I have been hunting a place for the last 3 years, and have tagged a buck and atleast 2 does each year. This year sign is down and ive only seen 1 buck running a doe.
redkneck
Generally I say the answer is "no" but no doubt they can be thinned from overhunting and disease. Hope your just having a bad year, but a few bad neighbors can stack them up day and night 24/7/365.
soillap
A lot depends on how big the area is your hunting. I've got a 20 acre patch that usually only holds 2 or 3 does with bucks coming and going during the rut. That is a buck only woods for me due to the fact the does are what bring the bucks in. wtnhunt
Think does can be overhunted, when you have no does left then it does not matter about the bucks. We have liberal limits here, allowed to take 3 does a day from season start late in Sept up until the season closes early January. You get enough around who have no self control and who do not care about the wildlife on the property and yes they can do a great deal of damage to the herd. I cut back on taking does myself when the state implemented our liberal limits because I knew we had others around that would shoot every one that they see, and some still do. dbHunterNY
yes.... but that's not a huge number you're taking. if your area holds fewer doe and you're not seeing many try to take maybe one and later in the season. as the others said they're what the bucks seek right now. if there's not doe, there's no bucks. Ravin R10 man
Northern Mich. had the Casino deer enclosure..they could not get the last deer killed even by doing drives with snow on the ground! John Ozoga ran it..he told of the incedent in Deer & Deer Hunting..was driving past it and saw the name on the front gate..so I stoped in, but they had stopped doing research at that time..2003? redkneck
Never know of a whitetail herd anyway, more like a continuous population that will fill in any void that provides habitat.
