muggs
So, a couple weeks ago, there was no way Miss St. should have been ranked 15th or whatever they were when Texas A&M smoked them. Honestly, it's Mississippi State... Let's all remember, this A&M team was average in the Big 12 last season. Then, this A&M team rolls into 'Bama's house with a freshman QB and rolls the mighty tide who I was told would beat NFL teams and was the greatest team ever. Then, apparently any team with "UL" in there name would be one of the best teams in the SEC as UL Monroe and UL Lafayette can play with even the top SEC teams...it took a blocked punt with a few seconds left for Florida to beat Lafayette... Remember, due to the SEC over-hyping, this average Florida team was ranked 2nd at one point in time!! Is the SEC overrated, yes, yes it is. redkneck
No doubt state had any business up there. Still got 6 of the top ten spots in BCS standings, looks like we'll still be raking in the money again this year!
muggs
HAHAHA!!!! Yeah, because that's what college football should be all about! Se folks, this is the moronic line of thinking SEC fans suffer from. You're still missing the point btw, the reason you have 6 of the top ten teams is DUE TO THE HYPE THE CONFERENCE RECEIVES FOR NO REASON. You realize Mississippi State was ranked 10th at one point this year!? Florida was #2 at one point!? What a joke...

Absolutely did not miss your point, I posted that to just make my point. No matter what you think of SEC ball, (the records vs other conferences are just a google away) it's a money-maker baby! PS - We cut the refs in on revenue sharing as well just to keep things honest. :clown:
muggs
I think you're cutting the BCS leaders in on all this cash too!! haha It's definitely a great conference. What I'm saying is it's not that far above the others as everyone likes to think. I'm a Big Ten guy, and right now, this as about as down as I can remember seeing it. But there are some good coaches who are really recruiting so it will be back. I think LSU and 'Bama are going to be doing their thing for a long time too. muggs
Oh, and I almost forgot the most glarring example of the SEC over hyping. Arkansas opened the year ranked 8th!! What a joke. And what happened to Auburn?! Yikes. I guess they couldn't bribe the father of some shady JuCo transfer to come in and buy his way to the Heisman this year. redkneck
State couldn't make the monthly payments to the Rev to keep Newton, but AU did. AR is a great program IMO that normally plays some great ball no matter who they play, though their program pretty much imploded last year and is still in freefall. No doubt, Bama and LSU will be great for many years to come, but what goes up will eventually come down. Between those two and an occasional FL/GA team the SEC will keep popping up in the big game on a reg basis, they've just had a good run last few years is all, it wont last, nobody stays there forever. I'm wondering when the days of the other FL teams will be back (fl state and miami).
muggs
Yeah, Georgia is legit. They have some really impressive athletes on that squad. Right now, if you take the top three school from every conference, the SEC wins. But, from top to bottom I think the Pac-12 is the deepest conference. I was hoping for a Oregon vs. 'Bama title game, still could get it I guess. Those are the two best teams in the country IMO. I just hope this over-hyped Notre Dame team doesn't get in. I'm thinking USC is going to smoke them though. I don't want to see a Notre Dame vs. Kansas State championship game though. That is fo sho. hoosierhunter
This week in the mighty SEC Muggs What win by any team on the road was more impressive than the 30-13 ND win @Oklahoma? They dominated the 4th qtr and blew it open. That's the best finish I can ever remember by ND.
redkneck
Yesterday flat shook things up!
muggs
I don't think Oklahoma is that impressive. Landry Jones is garbo and that Oklahoma defense isn't what it once was. ND is a solid team, but I don't think they're a #1 team. Love their defense and their RB, but right now Golson is a liability.
hoosierhunter
This week in the mighty SEC The Stanford road win @ Oregon is probably the best after this weekend. Funny enough Stanford outplayed ND in South Bend but didn't capitalize on errors to win the game.
muggs
Well, looks like I'm going to get my wish of seeing 'Bama crush ND in the title game. Again, the entire SEC is going to get credit for a dominant 'Bama program.
hoosierhunter
This week in the mighty SEC Careful Muggs Bama isn't there yet. Georgia is a scary team that hasn't lost since week 1.
muggs
Yeah, I hear. Georgia has some athletes. I do think 'Bama is the best team in the country though.
redkneck
I'd like to see GA play ND.
midwesthunter815
This week in the mighty SEC So you're going to rip on the SEC and then root for the tide? That makes no sense at all. Then again I'm not sure about many of your ideas about the teams you talked about...
hoosierhunter
This week in the mighty SEC Please forgive him. He's a OSU fan.......they don't know any better......
muggs
Try to follow along, Sport. My hatred for Notre Dame far outweighs my hatred for the overly-hyped SEC. Look at 'Bama's strength of schedule. It tells you all you need to know. 2/3nds of the conference is terrible. There are 4 good teams, one mediocre team, and 9 horrendous teams. midwesthunter815
This week in the mighty SEC And ND has a stronger schedule than Bama not sure how that makes them overhyped. Not to mention many of those teams you suggested as horrible yet were ranked are very deserving.
hoosierhunter
This week in the mighty SEC I have to agree that when you schedule Western Kent, Florida Atlantic and Western Carolina there is issues. They won at LSU by the tigers giving the game away in the final minute playing soft prevent D. You know something's up when ESPN, SEC homers, are saying ND has a better D than Bama and played a better schedule. Remember NDs preseason schedule was #1 or #2 toughest in the land. It was a murderers row of teams. Personally I'd rather play Bama bc Vegas will make us 7-10 point dogs. If we play Georgia we are favored. I'd like a little more fuel on the fire at this point. muggs
Not to mention many of those teams you suggested as horrible yet were ranked are very deserving. Oh really, they were? Like you mean Arkansas was deserving of their preseason #10 ranking? Or Auburn was deserving of their preseason #25 ranking? Arkansas at 10 was due to one thing and one thing only...SEC over-hyping. There are definitely some strong teams in that conference, but not nearly as many stong teams as people like to think and the bottom teams in that conference are garbo. Anyway, yes, Hoosier I do like ND's defense a lot. Like their RB too- don't care enough to know his name though. But I like the way he runs. I just think Golson is going to be a liability for them in a big game against a defense that plays like 'Bama's (or Georgia's for that matter). midwesthunter815
This week in the mighty SEC Not sure if you missed it but Arkansas was playing under a new coach and Tyler Wilson (starting QB) was hurt early. That's tough for any team. And all of the sudden you like the Irish D? Thought that was another overhyped team? Confused.....
muggs
Not sure if you missed it but Arkansas was playing under a new coach and Tyler Wilson (starting QB) was hurt early. That's tough for any team. And all of the sudden you like the Irish D? Thought that was another overhyped team? Confused..... I see you're from Iowa. I remember in grade school we had to take the Iowa Basics tests to see where we stood amongst other students in the country. I'm curious, did you take these while you were in school? I'm guessing if you did you didn't fair too well in the reading comprehension area. If you've been reading what I've been typing, what I've been saying all along is this: 1) I hate the SEC and Notre Dame. I've hated Notre Dame since I was a child. My SEC hatred as recently developed. 2) Muggsbow's ND hatred > Muggsbow's SEC hatred. 3) I think ND has a fairly talented team, but they're a little early. I think they have a great defense and a nice runningback, but I think their QB Golson is too young and inexperienced to win a National Championship. He is a liability. 4) No doubt, 'Bama and LSU have had some stellar teams recently. I think Georgia has a lot of talent. There are some other solid teams too. 5) I think the top teams in the SEC are better than the top teams in other conferences. 6) I think the bottom teams in the SEC are horrendous. 7) Thusly, this insane hype the entire conference gets for a few teams is a little silly. It's hard darn work with you people. Sheesh.
