fly
Got this one yesterday morning. His left side grew very weird. Not sure if it was an old injury or perhaps genetics? What do you all think? He weighed 210 field dressed: estimated live weight: 270 lbs. I'm thinking 4.5 years old. second heaviest deer I ever shot. You can see the scars from fighting. His left side was all tore up from his inability to protect the left side.

Maine Hntr
congrats on the deer, a fighter for sure.. I would guess he may even be 5 1/2. Must have been a fun drag!
wtnhunt
Congratulations Frank. Both the deer the wife killed and the one I killed were a bit more fatty than normal, deer packing on weight for a bad winter perhaps? Real nice and unique buck there, his right side looks great. Dunno about his left, injury or what, did you notice anything to indicate any old injuries when skinning him out? We have one here that is a spike probably 20 inches wide, one antler goes straight out, he is limping.
MUDRUNNER
Congrats Fly! He's a dandy. I would guess the left side is from an injury.
too_pointer
I wouldn't have any problem shooting that deer, I think he is pretty special, and will taste good also. LOL. too_
fly
Butchered him up today and getting a Texas mount done. The taxidermist wasn't sure, but thought the left main beam had broke off early in velvet. The point seen is a brow tine. Dang that would have been a sight if he was right. I'll know more once he gets the hide off the skull.

hoosierhunter
yeah he's got saggy skin on the neck and that scare behind his head. He was a scraper for sure! great buck!
fly
A buck I harvested in 2010 had a left base that was larger than the right - just like this one. Both were taken on the same hill. I'm guessing that genetics combined with an injury led to this freak left antler. Here's another picture. Dawg
Awesome deer, congrats! I've lived in Texas my entire life (except for a ten month hiatus in Mississippi) and have never heard of a Texas mount. Guess I'll have to look that up...... Looked it up. We call that a European mount. Edited November 22, 2012 by Dawg
fly
I used to call it a European mount - but heard someone call it a Texas mount years ago because it was more American. I thought he had a good point.

Tominator
Looks like the goofball I shot a couple of years ago. BTW--do all your deer die in the creek?
