Well, the unions won. Hostess is gone as of today. If you love Hostess brand snacks or wonderbread you better get out there and buy them up because as of this morning the unions have won and Hostess closed their doors..

I just ran to Walmart and bought the family favorites. We typically dont eat that much junk like this but being that it will no longer be around what the hay...

Sad day for an Amercian Icon. They filed for chapter 11 the first of this year but it wasnt enough to keep the greedy unions off of their tail.

someone will pick them up, and move them to a non union state. or, i'm also thinking obama will "nationalize" them to keep 18000 union voters happy. we'll see.

Good thinking Steve, except! Not until they get 350 weeks of unemployment benefits, unless they extend them some more, free cell phones and a host of other entitlements.

I'm sure Obama considers Hostess a small business like he characterized GE, Pepsico and some others.

When will another round of so-called-bailouts begin?

Just read that they have something in the works that could possibly stave off liquidation.........one can only hope!

That is all we can do right now. It will take a LARGE corporation to pick up the Hostess product line and run with it. Twinkees, Hostess cupcakes, Ho-Ho's have been around a long time. They have been a lunch box staple for many years.

I remember when the ad slogan for Wonder bread was "Helps build strong bodies 8 ways" This was later changed to 12 ways. I always wondered what was different.

before judgement is passed on the "greedy" unions.....you should look at the union contract they were fighting over. They made a 4 billion dollar PROFIT last year. PROFIT!!!!! They had room to negotiate.

Where did you get that info from? From what I have read it was a $2.5 billion profit but they ended the year with $341 million loss trying to pay their debts.

Greedy unions, mismanagement and poor upkeep of the facilities by the corpos,......doesn't matter to me, I just want the twinkies to live on man!!!!!!

honestly fellas I can't remember where I read that.....either yahoo or msnbc. I'm pretty sure I read profits....but I have been wrong before. Regardless.....I want to the contract n negotiations before I pass judgement on the unions. A lot of ppl blame unions and assume it's always them due to the united autoworkers union that WAS greedy. Not all union is the same.

You read the good part of the number Kyle. They had a bit on the national news about it the other night.

What the unions were fighting about is that they were asked (and it was given a green light by a judge) to take an 8% pay decrease. Next year they would get 4% of that back meaning they would take a hard cut of just over 4%. Assembly workers were making around $20 and hour and bakers were making more than twice that. They refused to let their pay be cut through the Union.... that ended Hostess.

I took a 10% pay cut the first half of 2011. My entire company did. We did get it back 6-months later as promised. It was hard but certainly paid better than the unemployment line. Our company asked us to do this or we would have to have layoffs. It worked and we are back now, stronger and hiring new people. Keep in mind it did have a lot to do with corporate greed and the bottom line but in the end I still have a good job.

There has to be more to it than losing 1.60 an hour. I wish I had a copy of the contract negotiation. Our contract simply extended this year for the next 3. No wage increases whatsoever.

Possibly but maybe not. My wife works for the USPS and its amazing what the unions try to do. Early this year the unions pushed to lay off all of the people who cleaned the post offices and give the hours to the clerks. Keep in mind the part time help that cleaned, mowed, etc. are making literally half of what the clerks are. The day before the actual layoff someone up the ladder looked at it and decided it was a dumb idea. However, the unions were still singing praise of the decision.

A LOT of times money is the main thing. A union is just like our government, they have to be funded.

I wonder why are awesome leader didn't step in like GM ? (cough..sigh..cough..)

Cut your nose off to spite your face union....

they did that here at International Harvester also, guys were making 15 bucks an a hour when most in our town were making less then 5 bucks an hour. one guy told me, " I don't care if they close IH, I can get a job paying that much anywhere long as I stay with the Union" . He took a job pumping gas at 2.85 an hour... yep... stupidity
