Scbasshunter
Today I had a button buck under my tree and I decided to mess with it as it was starting to get dark. I shined my strobe flashlight at him and he just looked at me like he either didn't care or didn't really seem to see it. Could it be that deer can't quite see fast flashing light? Or is he just too young to know that he should have probably ran off?
hoosierhunter
Deer and flashlights. Shine a strobe in your eyes at dark and see what happens!!! Remember the phrase "deer in the headlights" look.
Dawg
Probably didn't know what to make of it.......or he could have just not cared. Neat experience nonetheless.
Scbasshunter
Deer and flashlights. After I shined it at his face, he stayed in the same spot and ate about another ten or fifteen minutes before wandering off.
Hunt or be Hunted
I as well had a button buck sit under my stand and I grunted and rattled and he just sat there to watch. See if anything showed up. I think they are just too young to know what to do.
stevebeilgard
i think he was blinded enough by the strobes to just stay put until he got his bearings.
redkneck
If I want to run deer off getting out of the stand, a quick half second flash with the flashlight generally makes them run like mad. Better than letting them watch me make my way down the tree.
wtnhunt
Threw a mini maglight with led's at a group of deer once from my stand when I was stuck, had been sitting for more than 30 minutes after legal shooting light had ended and the deer showed no intentions of leaving the food plot. They had no idea what it was or where it came from but they split.
Scbasshunter
Deer and flashlights. I was walking to my stand this am about 7 and walked up on 3 deer on the other side of a ditch I was walking down. They never blew or ran off. They just sat there looking at me. I knocked an arrow but too much junk growing to get a clear shot. It's funny to hear stories of deer not being bothered by something but we are super paranoid about what we do while in stand. Adjam5
I have had deer close enough to touch while assembling my climbing stand in the dark. They seem to not be spooked by light. Green and red light less than white in my experience.
Missilelock
I have always been paranoid about using a light in the mornings to get to my stand because I know how far I can see a light in the dark......probably a useless precausion, but i would rather fumble my way along in the twilight if possible. Scbasshunter
Deer and flashlights. My big thing is safety. I'll light up the woods to get to or from my stand if need be. I think a lot less affects deer than what we think. I've seen some crazy stuff.
Turkeygirl
Deer don't seem to be bother by the flash on my trail cams...that being said I'd just sit in my stand and enjoy watching the deer vs. teasing it with a flashlight.... wtnhunt
Deer watch your flashlight go to the same tree enough times they will likely learn to avoid that area. Got to remember that the deer you cannot see and may not even know are there, can usually see you in the dark and even after you cut the light off to climb up your tree they may be watching you without you even knowing it.
