NS whitetail
Our commerical lobster season was suppose to open today, but due to high winds and for safety reasons it is postponed until tomorrow morning 6 am. We have all of our 375 lobster traps on our boat ( one on the right ) and will be heading out at 6 am to set them in search of the tasty crustaceans. Our season stays open from now until the last day of May, we will have lots of nasty days to deal with in the next 3-4 months, but it's all worth it. It is the back bone of the economy around here. stevebeilgard
have a great season, lewis. how deep do you set the traps? what kind of pot puller do you use? i'm looking for a shrimp pot puller as those pots are down 300 plus feet. my crab pots are down 20-50, so i can hand pull them. be safe out there. Well, day number 1 is in the books, it was a real crappy day with Northeast 35 + mph of wind all day which made for some real nasty seas. However, we had a good days catch of around 4000 pounds of lobster. Back at it again 4 am in the morning, we will haul our 375 traps every day that the weather co-operates right up until Christmas. muggs
Pretty cool job. Curious, why start the season at the end of November? Does it have to do with their breeding and when it's over?

Does it have to do with their breeding and when it's over? pretty much muggs, the lobsters are better quality when the water is colder

Be safe and remember, you have to go out, but you don't have to come in. i guess i look at that a bit different, chris. you don't have to go out (bad weather, etc) but once you are out there, you do have to come in. in any case, the point here is that the lord protect you and take care of you, as this is a dangerous occupation. i do enjoy the rewards at the end, though.
