kcall
I've been using a handheld trigger release for the past year and got the handle of it down pretty good. im now starting to think about back tension releases. Anybody using one of these? What's the best brand? How hard are they to use and master?

Anybody using one of these? What's the best brand? How hard are they to use and master? Carter, Stanislawski, and TruBall are your main mfg of good target releases and ones that use back tension or close to it. All handheld thumb trigger releases aren't created equal though. Also not many use a true back tenison release that breaks from pull weight at a certain poundage. Many use hinges indoors or thumb triggers outside. it's easier to back off or pull harder into the wall to help steady in wind with a thumb trigger. i have a Stan Shootoff thumb trigger that's fully position adjustable. i wrap the trigger with my thumb touching my index finger knuckle. pull with back tenison and the release breaks by rotating and pushing the trigger into my hand. the Dudleys from the show NockOn do use true back tension releases from Carter i think. kcall
back tension releases Is it possible to let down with back tension releases of you don't like your shot?
dbHunterNY
yea that's no different... it's just you can have more control over how much tension is needed with other releases by keeping more pressure on the index and middle finger. a true back tension breaks when pulled so hard regardless of how you pull for the most part.... not sure if that clear as mud. helps if you go to a shop and simply try them with someone who knows their stuff. WVdeerhunter
I am bad to punch a finger trigger so i went to a carter thumb and back release and love it and shoot way better without punching.

dbHunterNY
this is important to take with you... the first few times you shoot any release and try not to completely punch it, it's going to complete by surprise and scare the crap out of you. however, you can get used to ANY release even a hinge type without a clicker that tells you it's almost at the end of travel. therefore, you can "punch the trigger" any release. learn to shoot each the right way for you and be disciplined. every release should be setup so that you can make it go off by pulling through the shot. weight is pretty quick to set and be happy with but travel takes a little longer to fine tune to fit how you shoot. dbHunterNY
Carter Enterprises - Choc. Addiction https://www.ishootastan.com i shoot a Stanislawski Shootoff Quattro size large. There's different sizes for each release model of these. large can fit a big hand.. i know many that go with mediums. also i've grown to like three fingered opposed to four fingered releases. make sure you try out or look at different ones in that respect. you're spending twice as much for a release as you normally would so you want to make sure it's the right one you want. also see the cocking indicator on the back that looks like a toggle switch with a hole? it's good to rig up a sling for it through that hole so you don't drop it. sometimes when dropped they break, because of the fine tuned sears in them. kcall
back tension releases A friend of mine can get me the carter 2 moons for 80$. Is this a good release for that price?
dbHunterNY
for a hinge style back tension it's a good one. they come in multiple sizes (small and large) and multiple finger groove options so make sure you're getting the right one.... meaning probably a large three or four finger release. if you haven't shot a hinge style back tension, then i'd do so before pulling the trigger. they're a bit different then releases with a trigger. .... the way they work is you pull and use back tension which makes you shift pressure from your index and middle finger to your middle finger and next finger. the release will rotate slightly which sets off the sear LIKE a trigger. resistance activated style back tension would be better for hunting than a hinge i think. thumb trigger even better.
