Well I just thought I get imput from smoe other people. I currently shoot a Trophy ridge matrix 5-pin sight . I just ordered a Trophy ridge V-Drive Mantis Pendulum sight. (Good from 1 yard to 40 yards)..

My question is which do you all think is better Fixed Pin or Pendulum. (Im leaning towards pendulum so I can stop worrying about distances, ect. and just am and shoot)

Re: Sight: Fixed Pin or Pendulum?

As far as I know a pendulum sight will allow me to draw my bow and shot accurately out to 40 yards from my tree stand. As in it automatically adjusts to the distance I am shooting at, out to 40 yards. That way I can draw am and shoot and be dead on at any distance from 1 yard to 40 yards... Unless Im dead wrong about this but thats what I thought a Pendulum sight did... is this wrong?

I've always thought pendulums were more for hunting in treestands(heights). Pendulums help solve distance as it relates to elevation. In other words, an object that is 20 yards from you when you are on the ground will not be 20 yards from you if you were 20 feet off the ground.

I wouldn't count on them being accurate out to 40 with a single pin.

Unless there's some technology I don't know about???

I'm not sure about using a pendulum on the ground. I do know that they will lock in a fixed position for ground shooting. Once they are sighted in, they will compensate for different distances from an elevated height. Out to 40 yards ? not sure. I do know people who swear by them for shooting out of a tree though. I think out to 30 yards would be more realistic.

Re: Sight: Fixed Pin or Pendulum?

I just got it in the mail tonight and its not what im looking for. Not gonna work with the hunting ill be doing. It does however work out ot 40 yards it got whats called a V-drive system whick allows you to move the whole sight to shoot farther away with a quick turn of a knob.

Re: Sight: Fixed Pin or Pendulum?

I shoot with a Savage pendulum.

They're great for treestand hunting and they're fine for on the ground too.

I've got mine sighted in for 20 yrds on the ground, which gives me 0-30 in my stand, using just one pin.

It shoots about 11/4" high at 10 yrds and I have an extra "duelly pin" sighted in at 30 yrds for when I'm on the ground.

I like mine grin.gif

It does depend on the speed of your bow, what kind of accuracy you'll get shooting with one pin. The less speed, the quicker your arrow drops. I'm shooting a Mathews FeatherMax at 63lbs and it is working just fine for me. wink.gif

If your into a lot of 3D shooting, with ranges out past 30 yrds (40 and 50), I would suggest pins.

For hunting 0-30 yrds...it's all you really need.

This is the main pin I have on my Savage pendulum. This little baby glows in the dark, all night long and is guaranteed for 10 years.

Those last 5-15 minutes of light aren't a problem anymore.

This little baby in what I have in front of my "Night Hawk" pin that I have sighted for 30 yrds on the ground.

And this is my savage pendulum, with the 2 pins shown.

Re: Sight: Fixed Pin or Pendulum?

I've used a Keller pendulum when treestand hunting and it works great, 0 - 35 yards. The only problems I have with it is its abilities are limited for ground use, and the one I have is noisy (there's a vibration at the shot). Because of these 2 reasons I've gone back to fixed pins.
