Ultradog
I'm into tractors probably more than hunting. Ford tractors specifically. I've owned a few, sold a few, parted out a few, sell a few parts, etc, etc. Usually have an ad on craigslist of one sort or another and now and then get calls from guys who are just looking for advice on what's wrong with their tractor or where to find parts, what to buy, etc. Anyway, I got a call from a fellow a while back wanting to buy a tractor I had for sale so we yacked about it for a while. Ultimately I steered him away from buying it as it was a little too big to fit the 3 point tools - plow, disc, cultivator, etc that he already had for his 8N Ford. Anyway, we kind of hit it off and I offered to help him find a tractor more suited to his needs. We talked a few times and i finally met him when I offered to appraise a Ford 860 that he was thinking about buying. After he got it home I went up to his place and we checked it over real good. After we messed with his tractor he asked if I'd like to see his man cave that he has in his pole barn. Well sure... So i went in and was amazed to see scores of Big racks from white tails, muleys, elk, bear mounts, ducks, geese, fish, a dozen different bows of one sort or another, gun safes and on and on. It was amazing to see it all. Now to be honest, most of the mounts and racks he had bought - been collecting them for 30 years. But the surprising part was he had all this stuff in an indoor 100' archery range. Wood paneling, heated, beer fridge, tunes, TV - the works. I was impressed to say the least. Anyway we hit it off. This guy has been competing in archery tournaments and teaching youth (and others) to bow shoot for a long time. So I mentioned I'd always wanted to pick up a bow but never knew enough to know where to start. Anyway, we agreed that I would help him fix stuff on his tractor and he would help me to learn to bow hunt. We talked again last night and are going to go to an archery shop and get me measured up and figure out stuff like which eye is dominant, etc. I don't have the dough to go out and buy the latest and greatest equipment but he said he could help me find some good used equipment to get started with. I have wanted to try bow hunting for a long time and have always wanted to get in on the numerous bow hunts in the regional parks and municipalities which they have fairly often for population control. Those special tags don't count against your main annual license here so getting an extra deer would be pretty cool. Anyway, This is getting kinda long here but I just wanted to mouth off a bit as I'm excieted about it. I do have a lot of tractor knowledge to give just as he has a lot of bow skills to give. It's just so cool to find someone whose interests and skills dovetail so well with my own. Have a good day. And thanks for reading this. bowhunter97
Thats awesome. Bowhuntin is definatly a huge thrill. The deer for the most part has to be within 40 yards and nothing compares to havin em in that close. Good luck with everything man.
dbHunterNY
sounds great... that's a nice setup to be able to shoot 30+ yards indoors. you can really fine tune things (no wind). Bowhunting really is a very fun.
