dbHunterNY
Soo I guess it's officially close enough Winchester is coming out with a new rimfire round, the .17 Winchester Super Magnum. Has a 20gr Vmax cookin at 3000 fps and a 25gr bullet at 2600 fps. 60 ft-lb more thump than a 22 WMR. Based on the case size i don't think it'll be much louder than a 17 HMR or 22 mag. Sounds like I should get one.
Ethan Givan
Isnt there already a .17 Hornet or something like that? I dont really see the need for another speedy varmint bullet. Already have the .17 hmr, .204 ruger, .223 and so on. I just cant see a strong market for another round like this, but I might be completely wrong. dbHunterNY
The idea is it's still a rimfire. a 17 Hornet is a centerfire. Within some town limits and other places people hunt you're not allowed to use a centerfire, but rimfires are allowed. People will hunt varmints and predators a like with say a 17 HMR or 22 mag. other times it might be varmint control or recreational hunting in a field where homes are a little closer and you want something a little quieter but still has a good reach. A 204 Ruger will rattle some windows and annoy neighbors within 300 yards. same as my 223 Rem I'm currently using. The field creates shots out to 200-300 yards, but i still want to be a little respectful with the neighbors living 200-300 yards away from where i'm shooting. a 22LR just isn't productive enough in that situation, as my focus is more toward getting the job down (getting woodchucks out of the hay fields). it just so happens to be fun doing it. i figure it'll let me get out to 200-250 yards and for some other fields that are much longer shoots and farther away from neighbors i'll continue to use my 223. clear as mud? lol
