Going to cut a few holes today...

I haven't been out myself yet, my brother was out about a month ago to check the ice on some small trout lakes and there was a good solid 4 inches of ice. My dad, brother and cousin were out last weekend and there was 9 inches of good ice on the lake they were on, they caught their limit within a few hours (5 speckled trout each). And to top it off my cousin hooked an otter which eventually broke his line at the hole (probably a good thing LOL, wouldn't want a PO'ed otter coming up at me!). My buddy and I are gonna check the ice this weekend on the Ottawa River to see what's there, supposed be nearly 50 degrees tomorrow though, which may be a good thing and melt the snow that's on top of the ice to break that insulation barrier and make more solid ice this coming week when the temps drop off again.

Well, wasn't the most productive day on the ice but a nice day none the less. Weather was cold in the morning, single digits until later that afternoon it started to warm up. Conditions were perfect, a good 6-7" of clear ice. Only caught a couple small perch. Supposed to go back into the icebox after this January thaw. Like you said Shaun, that should clean things up nicely.
