I play guitar also, it must take a lot of getting used to playing 'over the top' of the neck like you were doing there. I've never even attempted that myself. Barring strings with my pinky was painful at first. I actually could not physically play it the same way Hedges did so I had to use the overhand fingering. One benefit I've noticed is that developing that method actually helps strengthen traditional grip playing. Just trying to picture the feel of overhand playing like you did and it seems like it'd be trying to do something left handed when you're right handed... if that makes sense.
