Swamphunter
My 10 year old daughter decided she wanted to join the indoor archery league and has been shooting her little red recurve for years now... she DOES NOT want a compound bow of any sort. She has outgrown the recurve she currently has and I need to get her something that is a bit bigger and better for her. It isnt a requirement, but a purple riser would be nice.... how do I size her for a recurve? I am not familiar with them at all.... thanks
dbHunterNY
not sure what her build is but there's 62" AMO recurves that are still around 20 lbs or so designed for a 10-15 year old. i'd try lancaster archery... they even have replica Hunger Games bows that are youth type and cheap attached a link below. there's Olympic target style recurves out there with purple riser but they start getting pretty expensive. Capitol Black Recurve Bow Set recurves can be ordered from 3rivers and lancaster archery... Bow and Arrows For Sale - Find Archery Bows: Lancaster Archery 3Rivers Archery Equipment, Traditional Youth Archery Bows and Arrows, and Long Bow Hunting ...i wouldn't go any longer than 60-62" AMO length (measurement along the curve of the bow from tip to tip). it'd be easier for her to handle if it was shorter than that too. recurves are light weight in general so no worries there. somewhere in the 20 pound range is probably good. if you're shopping around on ebay or something. the weight the bow is marked is so at a measured @28" draw length. you'd substract 3 lbs or so for every inch under 28" from her draw length. check out the attached link... Traditional Bow Selection Guide - Hunter's Friend ...if she changes her mind about shooting a compound and doesn't need to hunt with it, look at a Mathews Genesis. draws like a recurve but at a consistent 20lbs all throughout the draw. it's used throughout NASP in schools. Swamphunter
Ok... I can see why a mod may move this thread to the youth room.. or more appropriately the target archery room.. but WHY would it get moved to the BOWHUNTING room when absolutely NOTHING in it is regarding hunting? My daughter is 10 years old... not even legal age to hunt for 4 more years..... if I placed it in the wrong room.. as far as Im concerned.. so did the moderator.
