....buy left over year model bows between early winter and now. you'll save a lot more money.

X1000

I still do this. Don't need to (and can't afford to) keep up with the Joneses. Don't be afraid of a used bow, or last years model. Lots of great ready to hunt rigs for well under 500. Get out and shoot and find one you like.

Gander Mountain usually has big sales this time of year to clear out their bow inventory. Keep your eyes open.

Mission was my first bow. They are well built easy to draw bows. Take a look at Diamond as well. Also well built and have an amazing back wall.

I bought my Bear Instinct on-line (eBay) when it was a year old model. Got it for ~$300. It's a great bow and it kills elk (at least one ;)). You don't need the most expensive, newest thing...but if you can afford it, wth.

this is also right. advice i give people is buy the best you can afford and shoot it with no worries. you don't need to upgrade every year. when you do though good equipment helps. once you get your bow shoot it and stick with your equipment. as time goes by you'll have memories with that bow setup and it'll be "old faithful" or your "go to" bow to get the job done.

I recommend getting a used bow. Since it's your first bow perhaps 2010 or 2011. Everyone has their favorite company, but from my research Hoyt, Mathews, Bowtech, and PSE have been leading the field in the past few years. Outdoor life has a bow review each year and suggest a great buy as well as their editors choice. It's worth Googling. Make sure your pro shop measures your draw length right - getting the right fit is essential. Good luck!

I don't know what your budget is....but the Hoyt Charger is an AWESOME package for the price ($650 I think) and it shoots better than some companies "high end" bows. I just bought the Spyder 30 and the only reason I didn't get the Charger is because it doesn't have the Air-Shox on it like the Spyder does. I can really tell when I shoot it that they're doing their job, less noise, less vibration. I agree with most other opinions though...find a dealer that sells used bows, and that will let you shoot what you want/need to find out what feels best for you. Good luck.
