deer slayer
Hey guys I had a few questions. This will be my first year trying to find a bunch of sheds, I've gone in years past but didn't seem to find much. I was wondering if anyone knows if it's a bit to early to start lookin? I live in northern Illinois by the way, any other tips would be helpful also! Thanks y'all!
HoytHunter831
To early to shed hunt? Since of the drought in the summer and cold temps, the buck seem to be shedding early this year. I'd say around here 35% of bucks have dropped already. We usually start looking the 1st or 2nd week in Feb. Tip 1: LOOK BACK! I find probably at leased 5 sheds a year by just looking back one and a while. Tip 2: walk slow. Tip 3: take breaks, rest your eyes. Tip 4: look on overcast days when its cloudy, the sheds stand out better and the sun gets in your eyes alot on sunny days.
hoosierhunter
To early to shed hunt? Yep overcast days. 1st week in feb start. Put in a ton of hours. Don't expect too much. I think I average a 1 horn for every 3 hours of searching.

deer slayer
To early to shed hunt? I went out today, didn't find any sheds. I seen a nice 8pt still had his head gear then I seen a 4pt with only half a rack. I think it's a bit early yet i'll give it another week or two. Stone Cold
I live in Central Illinois "Pontiac" and have found one so far. Most are still packing and I like to start early so I can get pictures too. I have a thread going of my shed hunting and you can see all that I have taken and found through out the year as it goes a long.

wtnhunt
Good luck. Don't have a lot of ground to look here and never found a one here at home despite looking every year. Think the darned tree rats beat us to what few make it through.
deer slayer
To early to shed hunt? Went out again today for only a hour. We got 3inches or so of snow last night so it was tough to look, seen a nice 8pt with half a rack and a bunch of does. Once the snow melts a lil bit ill be out lookin like crazy!
