LETMGROW
I have heard about this from three different sources. I called a state legislator who I know personally and asked him about it. He confirmed my suspicions. NY is considering an ammendment to it's new gun law. This would be a ban on bolt action rifles outfitted with scopes. Their reasoning: These dangerous weapons resemble too closely the rifles military snipers use. They are inherrently accurate and deadly. Even at long ranges. What is next? VermontHunter
WOW !! Really !! and this is new news to those idiots. The Springfield rifle is a hunting rifle that has been used by military snipers for decades .... NY State is out of control with thier unconstitutional bans on legit firearms ,, So what recourse are the people of NY to take in cases like this ??? I pray this type of thinking doesn't infect my home state or any other state infact ... These are very sad times.
LETMGROW
VH, I don't think this will go anywhere. BUT, it may take some of the pressure off the assault weapons issue if they back off. Dirty politics ploy IMO. We took a little something but gave alot back if we drop this! Now is the time we compliment and support those who support us and express our displeasure to those who didn't. Lynn
COEngineer
VH, praying that it doesn't infect your State is not enough, in my opinion. Send a donation to the NRA, call your legislator, attend a rally to support the 2nd Amendment. Prayers are fine, but let your voice be heard by all! Everything but the money part has been done from here .... Making donations right now just isn't possible with my wifes medical needs every dime in this household is already spoken for. But I've hounded every politician I can and I will continue to do so. Maybe in the future I can become a NRA member financially, but right now just isn't possible. stevebeilgard
this will end with total confiscation of every gun ever made for anyone anywhere. that is what the communist democrat party wants. simple as that. and, they will not stop until we, the people, stop them. COEngineer
To the point of the original post, the law they passed is already bad enough (completely unconstitutional), why do they want to add more fuel to the fire?
Adjam5
NY legislators have really raised the stupidity bar here...I am speechless and not surprised assinine proposals like this are being made. I have made alternative living plans for the near future. There is still hope for my children.

I am making a donation to NRA and one to NYSRPA. I've added a few bucks to each to cover you. Payday is tomorrow so I won't miss it a bit. When you get square you can send them a few bucks. I hope you recover soon from this. We've all had our crosses to bear. Good luck to you and your wife! Lynn

wtnhunt
NY is considering an ammendment to it's new gun law. This would be a ban on bolt action rifles outfitted with scopes. BUT, they will vehemently deny they have any interest in coming after any of your firearms used for hunting and try to make the public who knows no better think that these bolt guns are evil and have no place. Umm yeah what will be next. Got to remember of course this comes from the state where soft drinks in large sizes were banned. Liberals at their finest!!! They know what is best for you. dbHunterNY
i couldn't imagine and would fear what would happen if this was to be proposed and make any movement. i can't see it being passed through. i would not be surprised that some would proposed it, most likely coming from NYC. COEngineer
Any of you NYers know of any sheriffs (or other non-NYC police) that have stood up and said anything about not enforcing this on constitutional grounds? I feel like law enforcement has been thrown under the bus by the State legislature. The cops are going to be on the front line if/when push comes to shove. LETMGROW
Any of you NYers know of any sheriffs (or other non-NYC police) that have stood up and said anything about not enforcing this on constitutional grounds? I feel like law enforcement has been thrown under the bus by the State legislature. The cops are going to be on the front line if/when push comes to shove. I don't know of any law enforcement agency taking a stand on this. This is a law now and they are charged with enforcing it. You have heard other law agencies across the country speaking out with their claims of not enforcing laws if the proposed gun legislation becomes law. The reality here though is when it comes down to the nitty gritty they will enforce the laws or be removed from their jobs. Talk is cheap. We'll see what happens when they have their backs to the wall. Lynn
Ravin R10 man
Did you hear buried in the N.Y. Bill..was a pistal and bolt action rifle confiscation?.. thats what I heard on a reliable talk show
Adjam5
I heard that anything with a scope is considered a "sniper weapon" and is eventually gonna find the way of the mag fed semi auto in NYS...Banned. Open sights is all that will be allowed. I have not seen that yet, but there is all types of chatter regarding what is legal and what is not. This bill was pushed thru so fast that even the democraps that voted for it don't what it contained. The Rep in my area(Carlucci) who voted for NY Safe act was rewarded with Chairman of the State Mental Health Committee. Things that make you go Hmmmm.
