The Bug House
How does that work for you guys? After completing the course, are you able to purchase/own any kind of gun you want? It seems gun laws in CA have backed off a bit recently.......?
Trevor
There are two different courses one for non restricted firearms which are rifles and shotguns and a course for restricted firearms which are hand guns. Canadians can't carry a handgun they are only used for sporting purposes such as target shooting. The other class of firearms are prohibited such as assault rifles and we are prohibited from owning. After you complete the courses the paper work is sent to the RCMP for a background check. Then when you get it back we can purchase a firearm. It's a long process but those are the laws in Canada. Adjam5
So no handguns even for hunting? Trevor...congrats on passing the course. Great times in the field ahead. If I may...assault rifles are full auto guns. Machine guns. One trigger pull and it keeps firing. Those guns are HIGHLY federally regulated and most states do not allow class 3 weapons ( full auto). Assault rifle is a term that Hitler and the media have perpetuated people into believing are machine guns. What we here in the states are allowed to own( in some states anyway) are what is called modern sporting rifles. An "AR" or "AK" operates on the same principle as most Remington hunting rifles. They just look different. The last time I checked...a gun looking a certain way does not hurt or assault anyone. It is firing any gun at someone that does the bad. I understand the unfamiliarity with these types of weapons because most of our Canadian neighbors have never owned/shot these type firearms before. Just a bit of added gun info. Trevor
I guess assault rifle was the wrong term. We can't own an AR style sporting rifle and we can't hunt with hand guns either. When we hunt with a rifle with a centre fire cartridge the rifle can only hold 5 rounds and shotguns only hold 3 rounds. And thanks everyone on the congrats cant wait to try duck hunting.
