maddhunter
You can't find .223 or handgun ammo around to save your life. You can't just go out a buy a gun around here because all of the morons buying the ammo like they're gonna stop makeing it. I had to go out and find ammo and then buy a gun to match the ammo that I found. Which ended up being a 22-250. My son and I would liked to of had a .223 but why buy something you can't shoot. They had 3, 40 round boxes of ammo where I bought the gun and I only got 2 so someone else hopefully that needed them would get some. Just like to say thanks to all the morons out there that are buying all the ammo they don't need!!!!!!!!!!! .223 REALLY!!!!!! I could understand buying a 50BMG and hoarding ammo but .223 I don't think that people know that the ZOMBIE APOCOLYPSE isn't real!!!!! But if it is and comes about then shame on me but until then SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!!:hammer1:
PotashRLS
Patience, the ammo will slowly find its way back on the shelves eventually. However, it is also the government that is buying up the ammo for MANY different reasons, not just regular joes.
dbHunterNY
i hear you... it's something that will pass though. i might have to curb my woodchuck shooting this summer. i shoot a bolt action Savage model 12 in 223. i've got about a 130 rounds left. i shoot black hills 60gr Vmax ammo... that stuff is like gold. tough to find. wtnhunt
Yep, patience. Would be nice to see some .308 come in, it is tougher to find than .223. Helps to know when ammo is coming in to your local stores. Wal mart store here is starting to get a little .223 in and talked with the counter guy enough to know when to check in. Missed getting a 100 rd box the week before last by less than a minute, he had guys waiting in line before he got there that morning, said he got 60 boxes in total that day. Then last week got lucky and got a 100 rd bulk pack box and 2 20 rd boxes. Makes 200 rds of .223 I have picked up in the past 3 weeks, and I paid the regular price, around $88 tax and all in 200 rds. Got to kind of wonder how many guys are still burning up the ammo with slide fire/bump feeds. Wife's uncle would go through a couple 100 rd bulk pack in no time. Squirrelhunter91
That's the story nationwide. DHS has purposely created an ammunition shortage with their purchases in excess of 1 billion rounds. Clinton shut down the gov't owned ammo manufacturers. So now they rely on private manufacturers and we have to suffer.
stevebeilgard
yep. just wait out the shortage. i'd love a new 9mm conceal gun but i'll not pay full price plus just because of the shortage. i'll wait and use one of the dozen i have...lol. If you didn't see this coming and get off your duff and off to the store then who is the Moron? There was and is no doubt prices are going to go crazy with all of us on the losing end. Powder and primers are all but extinct with the exception of some shotgun primers. The military and law enforcement have placed astounding orders for guns and ammo in anticipation of a shortage. The manufacturers are working around the clock trying to keep up with the demand. The public buyer will be last in line . Meanwhile the government is raking in millions from sales tax on inflated prices. Their bonus checks will be fat this year. I bought a substantial amount of ammo two days after Sandy Hook having a suspicion things were going to get rough. I have more than enough to get me through until the market stabilizes. Ravin R10 man
Mad..have you not heard the Government is the biggest buyer of .223?? Now THAT should make us all WARY!!
Adjam5
I have been in Texas the last week and I have seen how gun owners and shooters are helping each other. In the Hill country there is a ammo and gun garage sale page on the net that all who subscribe. Let each other know of ammo and good deals. There is even a whole lot of trading going on among individuals. Ammo for mags...ammo for ammo and even guns for ammo. I have been to Walmart in Kerrville on 4 separate occasions with my local friend to purchase 223 in 3 box increments for a normal price of$24.98 for 60 rds of 5.56/.223. Brass case. If you got caught sleeping on what is taking place with ammo and guns. Well.... I don't want to call you any names...But at minimum. You missed the boat. Deals can be found, but they require dillegence.Mostly at local shops. It doesnt help with the Gov't making a huge purchase of the most popular ammo either. Dept of Homeland security bought billions of rounds of 5.56/40S&W/9mm/.45acp. What does that doe to the regular guy? In the meanwhile...save your brass, go buy a press, some dies, powder and primers(if you can find them) and make sure you or your loved ones never get caught in this mess again. LETMGROW
Good luck on the powder, primers and even the dies for loading anything right now. Especially .223. I buy from one of the largest wholesalers in the country and when last checked they had none of the above in stock. No .223 ammo available and they are not accepting backorders. I have plenty for myself. Maybe I'm not a moron after all. Lynn

Might run up on some on gunbroker, but prices on stuff over there for the most part is ridiculous. Kicking myself for not buying the reloading stuff I wanted at Christmas time from cabelas, but used my points to get some things for the family instead. Sale they had on what I wanted had it for over $100 less than anywhere I can find now, go figure. Have plenty of primers and powder and once fired brass for most calibers we shoot, have a little ammo put back yet too but still planning on getting into reloading, picking up stuff here and there as I can. LETMGROW
I used to get together with some buddies on Tuesday nights and do some reloading. We met here at my house and built thousands of rounds of ammo. I have alot of dies but not everything. Others had things I didn't have etc. We shared and had a good time doing it. I have a big table which would hold alot of gear. Presses, scales, case cleaners, dies, etc. We had a ball! NO drinks during the work. Afterward? That is another story. I didn't have far to go. Thankfully! We might start doing this again. Finding supplies is the limiting issue here. Lynn

If everyone hadn't went crazy and bought ungodly amounts there wouldn't be a shortage. There are now .223 and .308 rounds a plenty in our local walmart. I just wanted to say thanks to all the morons for forceing me to buy a 22-250 because I love it and am glad I got it instead of the .223. Sorry if I offended you LETMGROW.
