LETMGROW
Tuesday night my county (Jefferson) voted to pass a resolution opposing the "SAFE" law. With a packed house and standing room only crowd our legislators listened for over an hour to comments from the audience. All the comments were presented in an orderly fashion. The board then got their chance to comment. One member got so emotional he could hardly speak. He was the one who wrote the resolution. When the speaches were concluded the Board Chairman called for a roll call vote. Normally this type resolution would be voted on by a yes/no vote. She felt this was important enough to call for the roll call vote. As the vote was taken many added comments like "Absolutely, definately, positively to their Yes votes. The vote was unaminous to pass the resolution. After the voting the Board got a standing ovation and a long round of applause. Count us in as another upstate county who doesn't like "back door" politics by lawmakers who would rather get some face time in the news than pass a law which would really have some effect on controlling violance whether with a gun or otherwise.
