youngbuck06
April 1st will open another chapter in my outdoor adventures as the 2013 South Carolina season opens. I can barely hold my excitement in! I have diagnosed myself with spring fever. I have already went through my vest at least 3 times checking and double checking to make sure that everything is in proper working order. Cleaned and checked my 1187 super mag and i cannot wait until opening morning! There is nothing like being out in the woods and working a mature tom and the thrill of having one shake the leaves on the trees when he sounds off to your sensual sounds of love. Is there anyone else out there that has been overcome by this fever such as i?
Rhino
Doesn't sound like my turkey hunting spring fever is as intense as yours. Maybe it's my age now (59) but I can rmember being overcome with the fever, like you in my younger days. Taking it more in stride now but my season opens Friday morning so I'm getting more fired up now. All may turkey hunting gear is organized & ready to load up. I don't use a vest anymore though so I haven't been digging through one over & over. My substitiute for a vest is my Ol Tom turkey hunting outfits & their accessories, which I've been using for 5 or 6 years now to lighten my load. That along with a very small fanny pack for a few other items. Not to make you feel bad or nothing, but our season opens Friday. I'm heading to our hunting camp tomorrrow to check zero on my holosight, try to listen for some birds going to roost, and maybe get in some bass fishing. Weather looks like it will be perfect for opening day...clear, low 42 & high of 74 with not hardly any wind. Saturday & Sunday it gradually warms up & the wind picks up but not bad. There aren't many bad days when you're in the spring turkey woods watching everything coming back to life, not to mention listening to the woods come to life every morning. wtnhunt
Season here opens the last weekend of this month, the way things are going it cannot get here soon enough. Hearing birds almost every morning the past few days when I leave, had 3 different birds sounding off yesterday morning in the hardwoods next to our house. Saw a flock of about 70 birds with one strutting about 15 yards off the road yesterday morning.
Ethan Givan
Season starts here in exactly one month today on April 13th. Im looking foward to it, already replaced a couple mouth calls, and bought a new owl hoot tube. I have been seeing birds here behind the house on almost a daily basis. Been seeing 4 different longbeards, and a group of about 20 hens and jakes. Went for a walk last weekend and saw plenty of turkey sign on the farm, ridge tops were absolutely torn up with scratching and the foodplot had alot of tracks and droppings in it. I havent been scouting on any of my other properties I hunt yet, but I am confident the birds are there. I will probably start going out and listening for birds gobbling in the mornings here in a couple weeks.

I never knew I'd love the sport as much as I do. I'm a deer hunting fanatic & I can honestly say my love for hunting turkeys is right there with deer. I'm from SC to and the wait is killing me. I feel like I felt 2 or 3 days before Christmas as a kid when those presents were under the tree. You're right, nothing like slipping in the spring woods, its about 50 degrees the sun starts to rise and all of a sudden the woods just burst with goobles all around you & you're talking back and forth with an old gobbler. At least thats how it is on the 400 acres I hunt. Tomorrow I'm going to stain and paint some deer stands then go check some trail cameras I put on some logging roads where Ive found tracks, scratching and droppings. Down in the low country of SC they started today, the wait until April 1st is almost surreal. Actually this year will be like 2 opening days. April 1st is Monday I'm taking that morning off, then the following Saturday will be just like opening day all over again. My wife thinks I'm crazy I've been driving her crazy practicing with a new box and slate call in the house & yard for about a week now. youngbuck06
Turkey Fever Yesterday while driving home from work i passed a field with a newly built house in it. Also accompanied by 23 birds feeding. I had no choice but to pull over and sneak up through the public property to take a closer look. Counted 6 longbeards and 2 of them were in full strut the entire time i was watching. Id say about 15-20 min. Man that has really got me fired up! gbrewer
Turkey Fever Bow season starts April 1st here in Kansas and after many trips to local public hunting areas I can tell this season is going to be a challenge
Burkef1
Do the right thing, don't just sit inside waiting for turkey season to come. Get out and take a couple coyotes it good for the turkeys and the deer. But I do admit I think I'm coming down with the fever too. It's the only thing you can go hunting for right now in Maine.
